...I'd expect this to happen.I probably should state that these are Mother 3 spoilers but...
...Well, frankly, I think Sakurai spoiled it all for us anyway in his Dojo update site when he showcased New Pork City. I'm only showing what the site shows, so don't blame me!
That being said...
Ah, Mother... That series is on my incredibly large list of "games I'd love to play but haven't had the chance to try". I've read the scripts, looked at the pictures, listened to the music, watched YouTube videos...but I've never played the games. My fingers are crossed that I'll get a chance soon however (hurray for the Wii's VC ~<3).
Anyhow, when I first saw the New Pork City update on the Dojo site, this was pretty much my immediate thought should Ness return to the fray.
I'm sure he wouldn't be too thrilled to see an overgrown statue of his obnoxious, self-centered, bratty neighbour that nearly got him killed. Of course, this scenario is only possible in Brawl...
Anyhow, it didn't turn out too bad considering how much I'm terrible at drawing humans. I'm sure I got Ness's hat and shirt wrong, but I'm pretty proud of the Pokey statue, especially the lighting of it.
Not bad for my first Mother fan art, right? Or would this be classified as Brawl fan art...?
Also, yes, I did cheat a little with the background here...

Actually you'd be surprised how well Ness actually would handle a situation like this just reach the ruined zoo in SSE (slight spoilers ahead if you don't have Brawl yet, but then again almost everyone already has it now but I'll try keeping it to a minnimum as best I can) and you'll see what I mean takes. He actually would handle the whole Pokey statue thing a lot better than how Lucas would handle the statue (well in Brawl at least, haven't played Mother 3 but maybe hetakes it better in that game than in Brawl) Anyways at least up until you reach mid point of the ruined zoo then thats when Ness well... I'll let you guys who don't know find out for yourselves

XD Ness's expression cracks me up every time i see this pic. Good one, B-man. Also, on the discussion of a possibility of mother 3 coming to the US i think there is a good chance that mother 3 could be released in the US via the virtual console. afterall, sin and punishment a JP exclusive game i didn't even know existed came out on the VC and the awesome folks at starmen.net have been calling and sending letters to nintendo about mother 3 for ages.

Well, this seems to be a shock, but it looks funny. Besides the fact that Pokey is still a wimp and escape to the future at the near end of Earthbound/Mother 2, if Cindy had a chance to kick Pokey's sorry butt in the past with Ness, she'll have a big chance of stopping Pokey. But in another game, the big statue did tried to crush Lucas and his friends in Earthbound 2/Mother 3, but it was ultimately defeated.

I'm also doubtful about Mother 3's English release. As you said, NOA directly stated that there were no plans and I'm sure that'll stay that way as disappointing as it is.
Still... Melee certainly generated interest in Fire Emblem (before Melee, I had no idea it existed, but now it's one of my top franchises) so who knows what Brawl can do...? Maybe an English Mother compilation...?

Meh, guess you can't expect much. There are still loads of Japanese-exclusive old-school titles many here in the US want to see on the Virtual Console, and while some hold out hope there is still plenty of room for skepticism and doubt. But Earthbound....while I'm not a fan of the franchise...it does seem disappointing for the US fans. Haven't seen such a cult following in years....it's just insane.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Funny how Marth and Roy's Melee inclusions were due solely for advertisements, even if that reason holds no water considering they were originally keeping the FE series Japan-exclusive. But just look what happened now. You have Dawn of Radiance here in the US, and now they've even included Ike in the newest Smash installment. Hey, you never know.

Bull. Ness is a secret character in Brawl, and I doubt Sakurai would be that heartless to remove a veteran from the VERY FIRST Smash Bros game from the third coming.
