Description Dont worry. Ol' Flutterclaus wont let a single pony go with out a present.

Tried a completely new style of coloring on this one
I've seen others draw and shade the image completely in black and white, then add color below that shading.
Thought i'd be interesting to give it a try. If anyone is interested ill post the black and white version to.

my technique is still a bit lacking, any advice or critique would be helpful

So if Fluttershy is Santa: Would that make Angel the Krampus?

Do not underestimate reflected light. The very colored light that lets an object be seen is the same light that can light up other objects. The pink hair should make parts of her coat close to her hair become more pink. Parts of her hair close enough to the coat becomes yellower as it's lit up by her yellow coat.

Also, try out what this technique of using a colored overlay over your work. It ties all your colors together making them more similar, making them belong a lot more.

The drawing catches an eye as a thumbnail, but the it dissapoints the viewer a bit. But it's not so bad, the only dissapointment is Fluttershy being not so cute as she usually is. The quality of this work is outstanding.

First of all, before I forget - her eyelashes are missing! Gosh, it's so visible and it's literally hurts my eyes!

Now when the biggest flaw is pointed out, let's talk about the technique. I know nothing about it, I use a different one for my works, more "color blind friendly" (actually, only my latest one is created with it, but it's so great that I'll continue doing it). I think I've seen many works did with this technique and there is one common thing - I don't know how to call it, but you've got a smooth, shaded lines and then bum, a hard line (of the eyes, for example, but it's so visible on her hat too), not composing with the rest of the drawing. I'm not sure what is the reason for it, but I've seen it so many times and I don't like this effect. Her face is also a bit too "fishy", with the eyes being too far from another and too broad head. It's only my point of view, as a random viewer. I'm also not sure if ponies have the same shading of the nose like humans. I mean the || tube above her nose. I guess that's not a pony feature. There is also a lack of drop shadows everywhere, making the nose (for example, but the drop shadows should be also on her eye, casted by her hat or on her hair, casted by her head) not so visible.

So when the flaws are pointed out, let's talk about it's good points. First of all, very well done hair! The strokes makes them very natural with an effect of depth. They're still not "perfect", but they're better than I see usually. The smooth shadow are well done too, but they lack the drop shadows (as I said before). I also like how the present look like, it's not plain and well shaded (but the drop shadows...). The effect of a snow falling from the chimney is also a nice addition to the drawing, but those spots on it are a bit too large. I think it would be better without those spots. The chimney is fine, but what I like the most is the depth created by the far background. The great moon with those fantastic clouds are giving this drawing a boost of depth.

So to sum up, you did a good job with this drawing. The new technique still needs a practice and finishing touches, but I'm sure you'll do it.
