Description "What do you mean, it's magic?" asked Samantha, glancing over doubtfully at her fellow dollhouse enthusiast, keeping her voice low so none of the others at the convention could hear. "Really?"

Kathleen ran a hand through her blonde hair sheepishly, as if embarrassed by the claim. "Yeah, the doors are enchanted," she said, pointing at the main entrance to the little house on the shelf, while simultaneously twisting the crystal pendant she wore. "If you use this while holding any nearby doorknob, you can step through that door into the house, and back again."

Sam's eyes went wide and she fiddled with her baseball cap nervously. "Are you serious about this, or are you just playing with my head?"

"I'm not joking," replied Kathleen. "That's why this dollhouse is so intricately designed. You can literally live in there. I've spent the night inside several times. It's pretty cool."

Sam leaned over and inspected the interior. Indeed, all the furniture and amenities looked unusually realistic. She could tell a few were hand-painted or carved, but several other items, including a reclining chair and couch, looked suspiciously normal. She found herself wondering if perhaps they were in fact full-sized items put in the house for use by visitors.

"I'm having a tough time believing this," she muttered, "but you're right, that would be pretty cool. To walk around in your own dollhouse...yeah, that would be amazing!"

"If you want, I can show you," said Kath, still twisting her amulet somewhat nervously. "We can both go in together. Here, help me carry it over to the storage room, and I'll give you a little tour."

Sam started to decline, mostly because she didn't like the idea of leaving her own dollhouse unattended, but the crowds seemed light at the moment and none of the other attendees were angling her way. Besides, she had almost no experience with magic and this would be a unique opportunity not to be passed up. She didn't know Kathleen all that well, other than a few conversations at the doll lover's club, but she seemed like a decent sort and obviously had either money or a significant level of sorcerous affinity. Artifacts like the magic dollhouse (if it really did what she claimed) were extremely rare--more than likely, the effect Kath described would turn out to be an illusion or thought projection of some kind. Even so, it would still be an amazing experience.

So, Samantha helped lift the heavy dollhouse and carry hold it steady while Kath held it by the handle and slowly made her way over to the storage closet across the hall. Sam hurried ahead and opened the door, stepped inside and switched on the light, and then assisted again as the blonde lifted her burden up onto a table. In the process the door slid shut behind them, and Kathleen moved over to it, putting her hand on the knob and uttering a few mystic syllables under her breath. "Okay," she said after a moment, "now watch the dollhouse carefully."

At that she turned the knob and pulled, and as the exit swung open, the tiny door on the dollhouse did the same. To Sam's surprise, she no longer saw the convention hall outside, but the interior of the little home on the table, expanded to normal-size proportions. "Wow, you weren't kidding, were you?" she managed to say, almost babbling the words.

"Come on, have a look," said Kathleen, smiling as she stepped through the doorway into the inside of the house. Sam's eyes went wide as she saw her fellow exhibitor's miniature figure waving from within the tiny building before disappearing further inside. Shaking her head in amazement, Samantha followed, feeling only a faint chill as she crossed the threshold into the dollhouse.

She moved around for a while, exploring as she followed the owner around, occasionally glancing out the windows at the huge open table outside. All worries about being very small became quickly overwhelmed by the sheer amazement of being inside an actual dollhouse. Kath showed her some of the furniture was, in fact, real, and some of the drawers contained actual silverware and other implements that someone living inside could use. "I don't suppose it has plumbing and electricity?" Sam asked jokingly.

"When I'm back home, yeah," said Kathleen with a smile. "There's a plug in the back for power, and I can attach a water tank underneath. Like I said, it's designed to live in. Check out the upstairs."

Sam followed her to the second floor, where she found an amazingly detailed bathroom, as well as a bedroom which looked filled with normal-sized furniture and accouterments, all the way down to the curtains and bedsheets. Curious beyond belief, she started checking out the drawers and closets, not noticing as Kath quietly made her way back downstairs and out the front door, returning to normal as she exited the little home. A moment later Sam caught sight of something moving outside, and jumped slightly in surprise as she found Kathleen's huge face peering in at her through the glass.

"The doors slide open," said the suddenly much deeper voice. "Come on out on the balcony so I can get a better look at you."

Suddenly shivering at the sight of the giantess looming overhead, Sam did as instructed and stood there, awed and amazed by the vast size difference between them. "Wow," she called out, "I really feel like a doll now!"

"Yeah, you look like one too," chuckled Kath. "This is the first time I've ever been able to see anyone from this point of view. It's everything I hoped it would be. Standing there, you look absolutely perfect."

Sam grinned for a moment, almost blushing at the praise, and then felt her heart sink as a terrible thought occurred to her. "Hey," she yelled, "I can still get out of here, can't I?"

Kath grinned wickedly, twisting the crystal around her neck. "Not without the amulet," she replied with a cruel laugh. "Oh...and thanks for volunteering to join my doll collection."
