And some of those little Santos-Dumont personal airships skittering around. Titanic this week, WWI in two years--the death throes of a dream.

Not to mention the 75th of Hindenburg's spectacular demise next month...
Indeed, the first half of last century was the death of so many hopes, dreams, aspirations, and wonders. To think of what could have been, if not for so much.

I've had my head up in the clouds, so to speak. Listening to some Al Bowlly and waxing my handlebar 'stache daily. It'd be nice to "zeppel" over Paris, but in this world we'd have to settle for the NT. Pity, that.
The blasted airplane killed it all with the Second War. Even that brief infatuation in the early Atomic Age couldn't properly revive a rigid airship...

OH HO! Now you MUST put that on paper for us all. That sounds like one hell of a ship.
As for the atomic airship, it'd never work. Even the smallest reactors would need so much shielding and coolant that one would lose alot of useful lift to it.
Dirigibles have proven useful for military purposes, just not as bombers. Well, mostly the smaller ships, that is. Even today, it would perhaps be hard to find a good military role for a rigid. Although the notion of a Red Cross/flying hospital is certainly a good idea...

The Cerulia is the size of a skyscraper?! I knew it was supposed to be a big ship, but I didn't know she was that big.
Indeed, while the Count may have intended his creations to go to war, Eckner knew otherwise. I rather blame Versailles for the lull in German development, although the post-war economy hadn't been too kind in general.

YEOW!
And in your world, where the devil would one build such a massive vessel? I have theory as to your answer, but I want to find out for certain.

Ah, and here I thought it involved your idea of making a valley into a "natural" hangar/dock.
