This is most wonderful!  To tour the coast via air in a day, and return back to port two days later by sea would be a dream come true!

It would, wouldn't it? Sometimes, I feel I am living in the wrong era. Not that everything was particularly wonderful back then, in so very many ways we have it much better today. Nor could most people have afforded a ticket aboard an airship either. But that is what dreams are for, and what a bit of creativity helps with.

Actually, come to think of it, I know the price of a ticket on the Hindenburg was rather astronomical, but I'm not sure I've ever heard what it cost to fly on one of the pre-WWI DELAG ships...

Well then again, the patrons Herr Zeppelin sought out were in essence "backers" or financers of his efforts, considering a ticket for a flight over the Rhein set each patron back several hundred Marks, and adjusting for modern inflation, that'd be like buying a flight from Virgin Galactic for one of their low orbital flights to space.

And if only modern Airship Ventures had succeeded as a business and not closed down.  A hundred $US for a seat to tour San Francisco isn't that out of the question, even for the everyday Jill and Joe.

Would be grand to tour our entire state for a day or two from the air, from north end to the big south end... sigh*

Very true, and the Count was first and foremost interested in military sponsorship. I'm sure many of the Prussian elite were his target, at least up until Eckener took over. Eckener, while realizing the need of financial backers and promotions (the Millionaire's Flight comes to mind), did seem to want the airship to become a universal thing.

Oh, now that's a dreamy thought. Touring the Hawaiian Islands by airship. Oh, man. I'd had thoughts of such things in the Caribbean or perhaps Alaska, but Hawaii would be THE thing.

Screw helicopter tours. I want a damn airship.
