Description
Pebbles cared very deeply for her koi pond. Most days, she would spend hours watching after her koi and goldfish, making sure they were happy, clean, and safe. It was her special talent after all.
However, one night a mysterious fog rolled in from the nearby bamboo forest, and covered most of the acres of land and small hut that Pebbles called home. By morning, all the fog had dissipated. All the fog, except for the fog covering her small pond, that is. At first, Pebbles figured the sun would rise, the water would warm a little, and the fog would melt away. But hours passed and the fog still remained.
The little filly started to worry about her precious fish. They needed warm sunlight to bask and play in, and the fog was preventing virtually any light from penetrating. Desperately, she tried using large leaves to wave away the fog, but it wouldn't budge. She took an old dried bamboo stalk, stuck one end in the water, and blew into it, hoping the bubbles would rise and pop, pushing away the fog. This only earned her a headache.
It seemed as if the fog was magically bound to her pond. It hung there silently and stoically, not moving for anything.
Almost in a panic, Pebbles ran for the nearby town, to ask the advice of, well, anypony who would listen. She asked the wisened old pony at the antique shop. He hadn't noticed the fog, and had never heard of such a persistent one. She asked the matronly mare that ran the bakery. Neither she nor her husband had any clue what the fog was or how to remove it.
Poor little Pebbles asked many townsponies about the fog with no luck, before finally stopping at an old herbal shop. With tiny tears in her eyes, and with a small voice, she asked the mare who ran the store if she had any idea what could be done about the fog. Heartbreakingly, the mare had no clue either.
Pebbles sat on the floor, defeated. This was one of the last shops in town to visit, and the sun was getting close to setting. She had no idea how long the fish would last under the fog, but Pebbles didn't want to take many chances waiting. Maybe she'd just have to run back home and try with the leaves again.
Pulling herself up from the floor, Pebbles began to trot solemnly out of the shop.
But she was stopped by a tan unicorn mare.
"Excuse me, I don't mean to stop you, but I couldn't help overhearing your conversation with the shop keeper. You said that there is a mysterious fog over your pond, and you can't get rid of it?"
Pebbles ears perked. "Yeah, I did. Do you know about the fog? Can you help? I'm scared my fish might get sick from the fog..." She said, her voice squeaking with unshead tears on the last part.
The tan mare smiled. "I think I can help you. Can you tell me more about the fog? Where it came from, what color it is, what you've tried to do to fix it?"
Pebbles explained everything to the mare, who's name she found out was Violet, as the unicorn nodded and muttered occasionally. Finally Violet came to the conclusion that she knew what she could do to fix the fog. Apparently the mare was visiting from a far away land to obtain some of the special herbs grown in Neighjing, as her special talent was potion-making. Violet told Pebbles that there was a forest near her home that would sometimes roll out a fog that would hang over small bodies of water as well, and she knew the potion to fix it!
Pebbles jumped for joy, and could barely contain herself as Violet borrowed the shopkeeper's brewing station to start the potion. But Violet told the filly that she should run back to her pond and make sure her fish were well as the potion was brewed. Giving the unicorn directions to her house, Pebbles ran back, with a little more hopeful bounce in her step.

The tiny pony lied down next to pond, gazing sadly into the fog. She couldn't see her fish, but she just knew that they were probably scared, and maybe a little cold. Pebbles hoped fiercely that the foreign mare could get rid of the fog. Pebbles didn't know what she would do if it didn't work.
Just as doubt and fear started to leak into her features Violet trotted up the hill, carrying a large purple flask on her back. She came up to the pond, and paused to smile at the little filly.
"Don't worry Pebbles. I'm positive this will work."
Without another word, the unicorn levitated the flask off her back and set it down gently on a rock on the edge of the pond. She used her hoof to slowly tip the flask, pouring the potion into the pond.
The purple liquid swirled on the surface of the water, and wherever it spread, the fog lifted away, almost hissing as it dissipated into the air. Soon, all the fog was gone, and the purple swirling potion faded away.
Pebbles gaped. With the fog gone, she could see her fish, and they seemed fine! They seemed ecstatic even, rolling and dancing in the sun.
Joyous tears in her eyes, Pebbles bounded over and hugged Violet. The unicorn chuckled, and hugged the filly back.
The pair lounged by the beautiful little pond, admiring the fish in the dying light of the setting sun.

Wow, that turned into a much bigger project than I expected. But I'm happy with how it turned out, even if it did take staying up until 3 on Christmas eve to finish it.
This is a piece for 's OC art contest. fav.me/d6t3g9p It ends today, so I barely got it in! Even if it isn't as beautiful as some of the digital works entered in to the contest, I feel like mine has a lot of heart put into it. I hope Naz likes it.
Both ponies are needle felted wool over wire armatures. Violet is about five inches tall, Pebbles is about three. I'll post pictures of them separate later, when I'm not so exhausted.
