Description

“You should have seen it, Cayde… I know how much finding the Vault meant to you.

One of these days we’ll get you out of the tower and have some real fun.”

So my head-canon is that because Cayde is stuck in the tower like a sassy, pretty pretty princess, he lives vicariously through his hunter kids and their triumphs.

And Laila usually stops by at the end of her work day to tell him stories and lift his spirits. They’ve become quite good friends over the years.

You mean a FRIEND-ship? Cause I friend-ship them to the end of time for srs.

I have similar head-canons with my characters too. Though, it's usually talking to their respected Vanguards for better strategists or ways to take on their enemies, they do just go to them in between missions, strikes, and raids just to talk to them, let them vent their frustrations onto some willing ears and try to comfort their worries.

Of course, all of my characters are very tight-knit themselves and while I know it's impossible in game, I'm writing a story where they're always together as a fire-team; that means some scenes are slightly re-created since it's all three of my Guardians instead of the one I'm playing, but that won't be too hard to do!

Addy is intimidated by the Vanguards so she doesn't spend much time around them... and Rue tends to spend more time with Rahool and The Speaker than anyone else. Laila's a little unique in that respect- she rather likes Cayde, not just because he's her Vanguard, but because they're like-minded. I guess it could just be a hunter thing.

Mine are somewhat the same? It's more like of the six (my husband's and mine) they've formed their own little circles of people they can count on, but they hang out with each other quite often outside of missions and patrols.

Yeah, I can imagine. My hunter, Jasen, is never too far from my titan, Corian. And Zarall, my warlock, tends to keep to himself while also keeping an eye on Jasen.

Jasen is Human while Corian is an Exo; Zarall's an Awoken. Jasen and Corian have an interesting relationship; Corian is actual Jasen's personal Guardian and partner. Jasen found Corian when he was deactivated in a scrapyard as a child; he reactivated him and Corian became attached and very protective of his Human. (Time wise, they met when Jasen was 5 and he and Corian 'died' when the Collapse occurred; Jasen was 24 when it happened.) Zarall's always been cautious around Humans, Exos, even other Awoken mostly because none of them has shown anything, but hostility towards him.

In my story, Zarall's been alive again for a few weeks when Jasen and Corian finally come to the Tower. They were revived together, which most of the other Guardians never heard of before; if it did happen, the Guardians were of the same race. Zarall sort of has a crush on Jasen upon seeing him for the first time, but he doesn't say or do anything about it until around the time you first meet the Queen in game. Until then, Zarall just tries to become friends with both Jasen and Corian, the Exo and the Awoken bucking heads more than once.

I have it set up in the story that another three-man fire-team has been ragging on Zarall ever since he got to the Tower; the group is set up almost the same as my main characters—backgrounds completely different of course and all three of them are titans—and Corian and Zarall begin to bond whenever the Exo protects him from their insults. Zarall, who avoids confrontations with other Guardians, tries to ignore them, but it becomes too much when they start to insult Jasen and he challenges the group to a Skirmish match in the Crucible, which they accept. My Guardians, having had months to learn how each one of them fights, easily clean the other group's clocks and afterward hear nothing from them again.

When they aren't on missions or patrols, each one as a spot they like to hang out. Jasen can usually be found at the end of one of the platforms in the shipyard, watching as other Guardian's ships taxi in; Zarall mediates at the end of the Traveler's Walk (I know that it's sectioned off when there isn't an event, but I've made it so it's always open in my story); and Corian likes to gaze down the the last city. Since we now have access to an social area in the Reef, they three of them just likes to sit down where you spawn in and gaze out at the horizon.

...Wow, that got long, sorry!

Thank you! I really enjoy drawing the exos and giving them expressions. Cayde's face was a little less forgiving than Laila's in terms of how I could manipulate his features but I think it turned out pretty nice.
