Description                                                           War on Love: Germany x Reader [P8]

The jeep pulled up to the entrance of the military base, which was surrounded by makeshift tents the rebels has set up waiting upon Ludwig’s return. There were heavily armed government forces for every meter, as both rebel and guard alike walked around the perimeter. The tension was so thick you felt like you could cut it with a knife.

“So, where exactly did they take Ludwig?” Lovino asked darkly, stepping off the jeep and slamming the door. “We have all the right to get him back in one piece.”

Feliciano dusted the back of his pants. “When we first arrived, there wasn’t a soul in sight. We thought it was going to be an easy fight. Ludwig thought it was strange and brought a few of his trusted units into the perimeter. Later, all but one was gone. The one soldier who wasn’t caught returned with a message from the government. The other soldiers were being held hostage and Ludwig is likely being interrogated or being forced into some sort of agreement.”

           “Damn…” Lovino muttered.

“I could sneak in,” you piped up. The two Italians turned to you, surprised. “I wasn’t trained as a sniper for no reason.”

“Actually, that won’t be necessary.” The raven-haired private said behind you. “Feliciano, what’s the meaning of this?”

You turned to see Kiku staring steely at you. Instinctively, you took a few steps back into Lovino.

Feliciano looked flustered. “1st Lieutenant Honda, I saw them on the road back and they wanted to be brought here to help. It might be possible to transmit a message through the radio to the base-”

“Private, are you refusing to carry out my order?” he said, adjusting his peaked cap.

“N-no! I’ll take my leave,” Feliciano said hurriedly, climbing back into the jeep. The remaining three of you watched as he disappeared into a cloud of dust.

“Back from the dead, Corporal Vargas and Beckings, hmm?” he said coldly. You flinched, not understanding why he was so angry.

He grabbed your collar, and pulled you up to meet his gaze. “Ludwig has softened up recently, no doubtedly because of your influence. He’s becoming less and less competent as a leader of the rebels. Without a leader, the effort will be lost, all because of a single outsider.”

“I’m one of you,” you replied hastily, the wound beginning to ache from the stress of being yanked upward. “I’ve never been a threat to his leadership.”

His mouth was in a tight line, probably from your unsatisfactory response. “How do we know that you aren’t a spy?”

“Lay off of her, Lieutenant, he’s been injured! It took us a while to get fixed up before making it here,” Lovino said quickly, noticing the tension quickly building between the two of you.

Your breath hitched in your throat. Did Kiku catch that? Lovino you idiot! You noticed that he had quickly corrected himself right after, but he had unmistakably said “her” at the beginning of the sentence.

Kiku looked at you before roughly releasing his grip, shoving you back. “Why didn’t you two contact us?”

Lovino retrieved the broken pieces of the radio from the sack. “We couldn’t.”

“Ah, so you two broke the radio I gave you?” a deep voice said behind you.

The three of you turned to see Ludwig, smiling grimly.

           “L-Ludwig?!”

The four of you sat around an open fire, among the tents of the hastily set-up camp. Lovino prodded the fire with a stick, sparks jumping from the flames.

“What did they do?” Kiku said quietly, the fire reflecting in his dark orbs.

“It started out as a normal diplomatic conversation. Then they realized I was Gilbert Beilschmidt's brother. And they gave me an offer.”

“Gilbert? You mean your lost brother?” Lovino said, leaning forward. “They found him?”

“No, he’s currently a prisoner of (your country). But the deal was....”

You looked up towards him. Surprisingly, his eyes had locked with yours. You could see nothing but his sorrow and hesitancy.

“They said to call off the rebellion and in return give me my brother back.” his voice was deep, definite.

“They will do no such thing,” Kiku said blatantly, swiftly taking off his gloves and placing them into his breast pocket. “They have no capabilities of getting-”

“I’m sure they could work out an agreement to exchange prisoners of war. But are you going to give up the cause for a single person?” Lovino asked.

“In the name of love,” you whispered. “Some people will kill in the name of love.”

Ludwig turned to you with a bittersweet smile. You knew the concept all too well.

“But,” you spoke slowly, the three pairs of eyes looking at you. “There’s another way we can get your brother back. And we don’t need the government. We should strike while the iron’s hot.”

“And they’ll be off-guard, since they’ll be expecting your response, not a few fucking bombs,” Lovino remarked.

“What exactly is your plan?” Kiku asked coldly, standing up, the shadows stretching underneath his eyes.

You tried to smile. “I’ll work things out with Ludwig first.”

You and Ludwig returned to a designated tent. It was set up nicely, despite the lack of time and materials. There were two simple cots, with a cabinet filled with medical supplies and food sitting in the middle.

You sat down onto your cot, sighing deeply. Ludwig pulled a kit from underneath his cot, taking out the broken radio and a few screwdrivers and screws. Despite being in the middle of a war, his hair was neatly slicked back behind his cap, his uniform spotless, and you could almost catch a whiff of cologne. You watched him as he concentrated on repairing the radio, you blushing slightly.

“Are you planning to trade yourself for Gilbert?” Ludwig said, looking up at you solemnly.

You instantly looked away, flustered. “W-well, I didn’t think you’d guess it so fast-”

He reached out and grabbed your wrist, his cerulean eyes rendering you breathless. “I want you to answer me something, Beck-”

“Sergeant? Lovino’s looking for you,” a voice called from outside of the tent.

“I’ll ask you later, it’s not urgent.” Ludwig released his grip on you and exited, leaving you with a pounding in your throat.

You breathed out slowly. Was he going to let you trade-off for Gilbert? It was the only thing you could offer, and it was in your line of duty to do so. His brother was the only reason why he joined the war, so if it could make him stop fighting-

You shook those thoughts out of your head. You knew he wanted to fight for the people as well. But you didn’t want to see him get hurt.

You got up from the cot and moved over towards Ludwig’s cot, picking up the half-repaired radio. His handiwork was quite skilled.

You heard the flap of the tent open, and turned to see a pair of hazel brown eyes and a glistening rifle pointed at your forehead.

           “Lieutenant Honda?”

He suddenly shoved you up against cabinet, knocking a few of its items off the shelves.

“What are you doing?!” you shouted, struggling against his grip, trying to move the gun from your forehead.

He pried your uniform open, revealing your tank top. You stomped on his foot, desperately, only to be shoved onto the nearby cot, pinning you underneath with his legs. In one swift movement, he lifted up your tank top with his free hand.

The barrel pressed into your forehead. “You were a girl all along. Lovino’s slip-up just confirmed my suspicions. Do you think you can get away with this, traitor?”

He was shaking with rage. You stared at him silently. Why was he so invested in the war? What exactly happened to him?

“Answer my question!” You could see his finger fasten on the trigger.

“What is the meaning of this, Kiku?” a familiar voice said.

You craned your head to see Ludwig lifting the flap of the tent as he entered. He stared, mouth slightly parted. You closed your eyes, not wanting to see the horror register on his face.

           Forgive me, Ludwig.

Hey, I know you're probably done with this series and everything, but if it's possible could you fix the rank structure of the characters? I come from a long line of military personnel and I'm going in myself, so it's kinda hard to read this knowing the rank is wacked. In this chapter you addressed that Honda was in charge of the operation, which if you were working with a standard platoon, which is anywhere from 38-45 people not including any assigned add-ons, would make him a Platoon leader. That title comes usually with the rank of 1st Lieutenant, sometimes 2nd lieutenant. Ludwig is seems to be the second in command, this position is the Platoon Sergeant, this position is usually accompanied with the rank of Staff Sergeant or Sergeant First Class. Now, the reader's and Lovi's roles can be assumed as just regular Joe's, which would make them anything from a Private second class up to a specialist. However, it is clear Lovi has some experience and has been with the organization before the reader which would pretty much mean he his of a higher rank. Now if we take his time and experience into consideration one can assume that he is at least a Team leader or a squad leader. (Squad leader is higher than a team leader). So he should be at least a Corporal, but definitely no lower than a Specialist and now higher than a Sergeant.
I know this is kind of a lot of information and could be confusing, and may not even really matter anymore but I want to make sure that the issue is addressed. I hope I'm not coming of mean or disrespectful, I just want everyone to be able to enjoy this story as it's meant to be.
