I think it shows how much she loved The Doctor. Sure, Ten is better looking (at least that seems to be popular opinion), more open and emotional than Nine but he's a completely different person; not only does he look different but he acts different too. I actually find it kind of annoying that it's almost always Ten/Rose and people forget that she was with Nine and she loved him too. She was willing to destroy the universe and herself just so she didn't have to be separated from him. She was willing accept Ten and eventually learned to love Ten too because he was still The Doctor but she loved Nine first. That's why personally, I don't really like that she chose the clone because it just doesn't seem like her.

This is exactly how I felt when it happened....
I was hurt and torn apart that my first experience with The Doctor ended so quickly and he was ripped away.
Then I was soon comforted by David and he reassured me, just like he did Rose that he was still The Doctor and I grew to love him even more.
