Jane began her existence as a simple doe. She was mauled by a bear, which was then scared off by the young reaper, Raven . Raven took pity on the creature and helped her to pass on. She then made the doe her pet and named her Jane.
Once she took the position of reaper of Earth-A, Raven assigned Jane as the resident reaper for animals. She transformed Jane into a centaur-inspired creature; half woman, half deer. Thus began the reaper career of Jane Doe.
