Before I read the description I thought of how the Gang would probably view Pterano after its revealed Pteranodon is carnivorous / sharptooth. Before they get used to it. Then it turned out even creepier: Pterano's dad is a SHARPTOOTH! That's my conspiracy theory anyway.

His name was Black Death. Pure black, red eyes, old as the hills, and had a powerful influence over the rest of the world. While the Great Valley was all living peaceful-like and all, he had a monarchy-like system of flyers and their influence over different groups of dinosaurs. He had connections across the globe and Pterano was one of his sons that was trying to take over the valley for him. He disowns Petrie's mom when she was younger when he finds out that she "betrayed" her family by having his grandchildren with a rouge flyer. Just really crazy things happened under his reign and Black Death was obsessed with making his family the best, the top, and he has these cult-like, blood sacrifice rituals done to "purify" potential members. He was just bat shit insane and I made it way too obvious that he was a bad guy.
So now, I'm completely rewriting the story to make it at least sound like it's from the Land Before Time universe, but it still is more mature and the kids will be young adults as well, so things will be rewritten in a different perspective, but hopefully still obtain that old LBT "feel". Which includes rewriting Black Death's character to something much more subtle and less extreme.

but I agree, something more subtle would work better. not because the charrie isn't well thoughtout, but because it's too obvious.
