Description
~Fainaigue~
It was his young face that was triggering something in the back of his mind. The mask usually hid his face, his age, and that forgotten memory that was itching Sniper’s mind. Every time he revealed his face a scene of a flashback would replay but it wasn’t complete, leaving him to try to figure out the rest. All the Sniper could do was to try to remember what was it, what really happened when they had first met.
“If I bother you too much, I could just always leave.” The Spy suggested with solemn, he didn’t want to leave the Sniper. He too hadn’t had the chance to express his feelings to him until now. The Sniper was the only person that he saw to be loyal and trustworthy as for now, he could not even trust himself.
“Never mind, just forget whot I said.” He rose from his spot and walked to the closet across the van. The closet door slid open to the side and he pulled out a hanger with his set of clothes. “You should get back to the base to get dressed. I’m sorry that I didn’t bring ‘em to you.” He slipped the shirt over himself then began to button it up, leaving the top few unbutton.
The Spy looked to the edge of the bed and found his blazer coat from last night was neatly folded, even with the large rips.
“You have quite the skill for folding.” He reached over and took the jacket in hand. “I must say, I am impressed.” He did a quick inspection, admiring the handy work.
“Hmm?” The Sniper looked over his shoulder to the Spy. “Oh that. Um, yeah. I t’ought you’d like to have that kept neat.” He tried to sound confident, hoping that the Spy wouldn’t detect the lie. “I’m going t’ wash up, today were t’ have a battle.” He made his way to the bathroom door. As he did so, he quickly snatched the tags he left on the table. The Spy didn’t seem to notice. He pulled the jacket around him, covering his bare chest.
“I will see you in the mess hall then?” The Spy was behind the Sniper now. He caught the Sniper before could open the door to leave the room.
“Yeah. I should out by then.” He insured the Spy with a grin. The Spy grinned back then walked through the door into the cold. The Sniper remained in his spot, looking in the direction the Spy had left in. The door shut behind him, cutting the chill air from entering. His hand tighten his grip around the tags, forming a strong fist.
Remembering how the other Spy had left the tags on top of the jacket made him feel like a thief. He knows they weren’t meant for him but he took them anyway. Now he feels like he had taken something important, something precious from him. He pushed his guilty feeling aside, forcing himself to forget the memory and regain focus.
“I’ll give ‘em back. I will.” He promised as if he was talking to someone within the room who had caught him in the act. “I will.”
Outside the air was brittle and cold. The Spy was thankful that at least there was no wind. The rips in his jacket allowed the air the sink in and brush against his skin. He had goose bumps once he reached the base. Once inside, warm air wrapped around him and released his tension from the cold. Around the corner he heard voices. Remembering that he wasn’t in his best of appearance for anyone to see him, he had to hide from the team. There was another hallway on his left. He quickly went down the hall in order to avoid the two members of his team. As they passed by in the opposite direction, one of the voices said something that caught his attention.
“Hey, you know what up with da Spy?” He identified the voice as Scout’s.
“Nah. what’s ya trying to say, boy?” By the thick Texan accent, the other Scout was talking to must be Engineer. The Spy stopped and leaned against the wall to listen in on their conversation.
“I’m not being Sherlock or anything but last time he was in da van with Snips.” Spy tried to keep his breathing under control, not taking in too much air. They were coming into view and Spy back up on the wall more.
“I don’t see anything wrong with that, son. Guy is probably tired of being alone.” The Engineer patted the younger one on the back.
“It’s not that.” He stopped in the middle of the room, brushing off the Engineer’s arm. “When I came into dat van it smelled, like- like a wet dog was in there.” Spy swallowed hard with his heart picking up its pace. “And he wasn’t wearing his mask. I thought he never took that thing off.” Scout had his arms crossed demanding for the Engineers opinion on it. He didn’t seem to make much of it, only scratching his head under his helmet then cracked a small laugh.
“Boy, I thing you’re over thinkin’ this.” He pushed Scout forward to continue their walk to where they were going. “You just need to loosen up some more...” Their voices trailed off as they walked further away. Spy remained shaken, even though he wasn’t in there presents nor did they notice he was listening. Now informed that Scout was on him, he would have to kept an eye on him and make sure he won’t spread rumors about him.
He continued down the hall back to his room. The rest of the way was quiet. Everyone was having breakfast in the living area. Back in his room he head toward the bathroom to wash up.
