Hi, here from www.deviantart.com/projectcomm…
First, the easiest thing I can say is that your description is perfect, its so ominous and tells us both so much and yet so little.
As for the piece, it looks great. Although I see it differently, i see what you were trying to make. From all my life, i’ve driven in snow during the winter, and one thing that always stuck in my mind was driving in the dark during a mild snowfall was how looking through the windshield at the snow coming at you felt just like traveling through the universe, seeing the stars as they passed by at lightspeed. As for the rest of the composition, the feeling of cold and danger is present in this picture through the high winds and blistering shards of snow wrapping through the piece, the figures in it seem familiar, but on closer inspection look foreign and alarming. Why is that vaguely human shape standing in the open during a blizzard? That red light, its not coming from the figure, it looks like some sort of structure in the distance, like a far away tower, and above it, the wind taking the light red flare almost looks like an eye, as if some sort of unimaginable entity is watching you, studying you, planning something, but what? Its like a bizarre combination of the celestial horrors of Mass Effect combining with the uncanny bodyhorror of John Carpenter’s The Thing.
Now, as for what I see, this really reminds me of a game I adore called “The Long Dark”, this reminds me of playing the game, getting caught outside in a Blizzard with no options besides trekking forward towards safety, not being able to see in the dark of the night or the suffocating winds and snow, and then catching the sound of a wolf and lighting off a flare, one of the only thing, even if its just a fleeting chance, to save yourself.
