This is just a quick, messy doodle I made while at the library. The rat dragon pictured is the villain in my short story, "Tales of Survival." The little kid in the corner pesters him while he is trying to take a nap, and despite his efforts to scare him off, the little boy is annoyingly persistent, and dense. The boy insists on riding on the dragon's back, and in a terrible, murderous, fit of rage, the dragon seizes the boy in his jaws, hurls him up in the air a few times, and then finally devours him. This serves as the catalyst for all the troubles that follow the rest of the rat dragon population on the island; they are actually very peaceful creatures, but it took just one violent act from one of their own kind to seal their terrible fate...

The helpless wolf child sat beneath the shade of a tree, alone, and crying.
“Mommy...daddy…” He sniffled, wiping his nose. “Where are you?”
The four-year old was stranded in unfamiliar territory. He and his parents had gone on a tour of this small island in the middle of the ocean to see new things. The last time he saw them was during the group’s lunch break. He remembered being distracted by a rude little bird that snagged his sandwich before he could take a single bite. He chased it and chased it, not mindful that he was wandering away from everyone else. Not only did he ultimately lose his lunch to the bird, he had meandered far from everybody, and wound up somewhere dark and new.
