Chapter 1 - Belle

You were fast asleep, thoughts of the passage from the book you just read floating around in your head. It was a well-known legend, a well-known fairy tale. Probably one of your favorites. You slowly opened your eyes to the sound of clanking.

You yawned and sat up, examining the very unfamiliar room. It’s simple and a bit old fashion. But weren’t you just in the library? And you really wanted to finish that story.

“Hey, ___. If you’re up, could you head to the town for a bit and pick up a few supplies for me?” You heard your dad’s voice ask. You were gonna ask him what he needed, but found a list sitting on a table not too far away. Looking out the window you could see the said town and decided, “If you were gonna find out anything, then it would be by exploring around.” You told yourself.

So, you grabbed a nearby basket and headed outside. The silence to the sound began to get to you, so you decided to sing a song from the fairy tale you read.

“Little town, it's a quiet village. Every day, like the one before, little town, full of little people waking up to say-“

“Bonjour!”

“Bonjour!”

“Bonjour! “

“Bonjour!”

“Bonjour!”

“There goes the baker with his tray like always. The same old bread and rolls to sell, every morning just the same, since the morning that we came, to this poor provincial town-“

“Good morning, ___!” You jumped hearing your name, but walked over to the baker at his bakery.

“Morning sir!” You replied.

“Where are you off to?”

“I’m picking some stuff up for my dad… and maybe heading to the bookshop.”

“That's nice… Marie, the baguettes! Hurry up!!” He seemed to ignore you. You just shrugged and carried on.

“Look there she goes, that girl is strange no question. Dazed and distracted, can't you tell?” You walked past two older women, who seemed to gossip about you through song.

“Never part of any crowd.”

“Cause her head's up on some cloud.”

“No denying she's a funny girl, that ___!” You saw a wagon up ahead and hopped up onto the back of it, riding through town.

“Bonjour!”

“Good day!”

“How is your family?” You watched as the townspeople conversed together.

“Bonjour!”

“Good day!”

“How is your wife?” You laughed at some of the ways the town’s people acted and hopped off the wagon once you saw the bookshop. Your dad’s supplies could wait a moment.

“I need six eggs!”

“That's too expensive!”

“There must be more than this provincial life!” You entered the little shop, the bell making a chiming sound as you entered.

“Ah, ___!” The bookseller greeted.

“Good morning. I've come to pick up a book.” He smiled, putting some books away. “Have you got anything new?”

“Not since yesterday.” He laughed.

“That's all right. I'll borrow...” You hopped up onto a ladder and examined the spines, before pulling one out. “… this one.”

“That one? But you've read it twice!”

“Really? I guess it must be my favorite.” You swing the ladder down, causing you to roll with it down the track. You began to read the summary on the back of the book. “Far off places, daring swordfights, magic spells, a prince in disguise!”

“Well, if you like it all that much, it's yours!” He looked over the book, before handing it to you.

“But sir!” You began unsure.

“I insist!”

“Well thank you. Thank you very much!” You smiled, leaving the bookshop.

“Look there she goes that girl is so peculiar! I wonder if she's feeling well!” The men mused.

“With a dreamy far-off look!” The women added.

“And her nose stuck in a book!”

“What a puzzle to the rest of us is ___!” You sit on the edge of a fountain, where a flock of sheep were. You skimmed through the pages, reading the tale.

“Oh! Isn't this amazing! It's my favorite part because, you'll see! Here's where she meets Prince Charming, but she won't discover that it's him 'til chapter three!” You sang to the sheep. The other townsfolk continued to sing, but you got lost in the book and it’s (cliché //shot) storyline. You got up and began to walk to different shops, getting supplies for your dad, meanwhile reading the book. A bit of singing caught your attention though.

“Right from the moment when I met her, saw her I said she's gorgeous and I fell. Here in town there's only she-“ You peeked over your book and almost halted in your tracks at the sight of the albino. Why the heck was Prussia here? No idea. Why was he supposedly singing about how you’re beautiful? Not a clue. “Who is beautiful as me, so I'm making plans to woo and marry ___.”

“Bonjour!” You easily walk past Prussia and into the crowd, dodging any obstacle in your way. You continued to listen to the chit-chat of the citizens around you.

“Pardon!”

“Good day!”

“You call this bacon?”

“What lovely grapes!”

“Some cheese!”

“Ten yards!”

“One pound.”

“Excuse me!”

“I'll get the knife!” (Lol)

“Please let me through!”

“This bread!”

“Those fish!”

“It's stale!”

“They smell!”

“Madame's mistaken!”

“There must be more than this provincial life!” You sang, breaking the conversational atmosphere.

“Well maybe so-“

“Just watch I'm going to make ___ my wife!” Prussia’s singing was drowned out by the people hustling around.

“Look there she goes a girl who's strange but special. A most peculiar mademoiselle, it's a pity and a sin she doesn't quite fit in!” The crowd sang, as you rolled your eyes and continued on the route to home.

“But she really is a funny girl.”

“A beauty but a funny girl”

“She really is a funny girl! That ___!”

“Hello, ___.” You jumped, but looked over the edge of your book.

“Hello, Pru- I mean, Gilbert.” He grabs your book, causing you to look at him, a bit irritated. “Gilbert, may I have my book, please?”
