In Equestria it does, however no one ever decided to actually use as a weapon (corelar damage most likely), but in Tirek's case, it works.

The sun and moon on the sky when Luna, Celestia, Discord and even Twilight moved it, it moved with the same speed and had the same size on the sky every single time. It means that it must be similar in size and distance from the planet. If moon and sun can be moved around the planned with such speed, moving it towards the planned would be even more easy as gravity would assist.
In other words. Celestia can pull sun towards the plannet with ease. The harder part would be to move it back to the orbit.

Β I'm sorry, the bad physics here just made me laugh so hard. Oh god where to begin.
I think I'll try to keep this simple or I'll be here all day.Β If she brought the sun that close, it would dwarf the entire planet by at least a dozen times over, not to mention that 'small' impact would shatter the world. And this is all ignoring the simple fact that the planet would have been reduced to a pile of molten slag long before the sun got anywhere close to the surface.
On a side note, I don't actually believe Celestia controls the sun at all. It makes much more sense that she and Luna simply control the rotation of the planet instead, which makes it appear as if they control the sun and moon, but that's another conversation entirely.

My personal theories on the matter run along two lines.Β
1) They simply rotate the earth. I consider this the less likely option as it would give them immense power over foreign countries, not to mention the potential conflicts if unicorns or alicorns in other countries were to turn it back.
2)Β I hypothesize that perhaps Equestria is simply encased by a field, probably magical, that separates them from the rest of the world and gives them their own weather and day/night cycles and this field allows them to control that. Β Like in the second hunger games movie where the sky wasn't "real" it was just an illusion created by a bunch of screens, and they could make their own weather, except Equestria's is magically generated. Alternatively, Equestria could just be in a pocket dimension instead of this 'field', like the breezies home.

Interesting theories!~Β
But considering this is a cartoon for little girls, they probably do control the weather.Β

ChaosDrgon In reply to M0VED [2014-10-20 16:15:31 +0000 UTC]
.... didn't I say that? *checks again* Yeah, I said that "gives them their own weather", the 'control' part being implied since we already know they control their weather.

ChaosDrgon In reply to M0VED [2014-10-24 16:34:51 +0000 UTC]
They still would. It's just that their 'sun' and 'moon' would be magical constructs that are a part of the field instead of actual celestial bodies.

CommanderEX In reply to ChaosDrgon [2014-09-08 20:14:24 +0000 UTC]
Nope. It would make way more sense if the sun and moon were small sized and were close to the planet rather than they rotate entire planet. Because if that was the case, you couldn't have both sun and moon up at the same time.
Season 3 episode 1 show that both sun and the moon are up at the same time and in flashback, Luna raised the moon to block the sun before her transformation.
Even Discord was screwing sun and the moon with easy.
As for your answer. I already said that sun and moon are small in Equestria, that is why sun must be so close to the plannet to warm it. If Celestia brought sun closer to plannet, it would burt area a bit, but not destroy the pannet.

ChaosDrgon In reply to CommanderEX [2014-09-08 21:59:53 +0000 UTC]
I pity your science teacher, I really do.
If the sun was that small, it wouldn't matter how hot it was, the planet would be a frozen popsicle. That doesn't really matter since the smallest a star can get is still about 80 times the mass of Jupiter (roughly 25,400 earths). Any smaller and it wouldn't have the minimum mass required to produce the heat and pressure needed to fuse hydrogen and sustain itself. So coming that close would still destroy the planet and leave it a molten pile of slag.
As for the sun and the moon not being in the sky at the same time... *snerk* BUAHAHAHAHA!!Β Β
Have you never actually looked at the sky?! Seriously, go outside and look up right now. There's a good chance you'll see the moon right up there next to the sun (depending on the current lunar cycle of course, I haven't checked today, but in case it isn't there, here is a picture )
As for the moon covering the sun, that is called a solar eclipse. It's a pretty common occurrence and happens naturally about 2.4 times a year. (And if Luna was rotating the earth as I suggest or even the moon itself), it would be a pretty easy thing to accomplish, since the moon orbits the planet, all she would have to do is position them so that the moon was blocking the sun.

Sigh...
We are talking about cartoon with magic and mystical monsters. Cartoon where Maud Pie can throw a rock that explode like nuke. A cartoon where sun and moon were on the sky at the same time in one episode (season 3 episode 1-2)
I know you are trying to act like some sort of genius and laugh at me like some sort of fool, but we are not talking about real lives fact but about a cartoon about ponies that can fly, use magic and grow food faster. I see no reason to continue this conversation if you cannot see the diference.

What is wrong with you people?
In the show, we do not have planets circling arond the sun where moon is small and sun and stars are humonous, or else Luna would be tousands time stroner than Celestiia, capaible to move stars of entire galaxy to her will despite te fact that they are milion light years away from Equstria.
If we assume that Luna cannot move stars, than Celestia is superiour for moving entire planet around the sun or circle the planet around it or whatever is your headcanon.
What is even the point of sun and moon as cutie mark if both alicorns circle the planet?
In my head canon, sun and the moon are similar in size and distance from the planet itself and can be moved around the orbit by alicorns,Discord and even by hundreds unicorns while stars that Luna control are small and close to the planet so she can manipulate them at her will.
If you have your own head canon that applies the same rules our solar system follow, fine, it is your head canon. You can even apply all your astronomical knowladge to back it up. But just because my head canon is diferent not make me stupid.
Saying that I try to hide my stupidity when commenting MLP art is both mean and pointless.

I see the difference just fine, but you are being far to extreme, focusing only on these 'differences' and using them as an excuse to throw out all natural laws. The reason I oppose you is because you offer no substitute for the natural laws you are throwing out, not because I don't understand this is a cartoon. This is what I know.
1) By what we have seen, the laws of the natural world and physics in general still apply. The fact that they have magic which lets them bend/alter these natural laws, doesn't mean they don't still exist.
2) It doesn't matter what kind of creatures inhabit the world, it doesn't change the way the universe works. The universe is so massive, that there's a pretty good chance of actual unicorns and pegasi existing somewhere in it at some time. Their existence still wouldn't change the way the universe works, even if those hypothetical unicorns had things like telekinesis and such, it doesn't change the way the universe works, it just makes them different.
3) Just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean there aren't rules that govern the way its world works, and since we have no evidence as to what those rules might be or that they are any different than ours, then we must assume our own apply.
4)Β Again, the sun and moon being up at the same time is nothing new.
Now before you answer this time, look at your logic, then look at my logic. Then refer to Occam's razor. As you can see, my theories are far more plausible than your own for the simple fact that I assume very little, were as you would assume changes in the very rules that govern the universe as we know it.
