1 Batman: “I need to be going. I’ve been monitoring a gang war that is starting to flame up in Gotham, between Black Mask’s False Facers and Scarface’s people.”
1 Superman: “Let me know if you need any help.”
2 Batman: “I can handle my own workload.”
2 Superman: “Hmm.”
3 Batman: “What? Do you think you could do it better?”
3 Superman: “Not at all. But Bruce, your time is worth more than fighting murder clowns with little metal boomerangs. You could change the world, not just some furniture in a gutter.”
4 Batman: “What would you have me do?”
4 Superman: “Lead.”
4 Batman: “You’re the leader. You’re the one the people trust. Not me.”
5 Superman: “I don’t know that I can trust myself, though. It… it would be better if it was a man in charge of the League.”
5 Batman: “That’s ridiculous. Of course you’re the right person to be in charge.”
6 Superman: “Hmm. What… what would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? If you knew that whatever you did, you would succeed at? Wouldn’t you question your every action, even the seemingly good ones? Wouldn’t you be wary of changing the world, knowing that if you were the least bit wrong about anything, every evil that came of it would be your fault, and no one could have stopped you? We’re on the edge of something, Bruce. And I need a man – a moral man – to be lighting the way.”
6 Batman: “I… I’ll think about it. But you’re selling yourself short.”
