Thanks! I held off for awhile before drawing him, I like how he turned out though.

Nice Joker. I think it has inspired me to try him as well. I like the fact that you colored by hand. That definatly is one of my weaknesses.

Thanks! I have realized that you have to try and be prepared to try again! I have spent all of my career rendering buildings and only recently have I taken to trying my hand at people/characters. It is pretty fun ! Give them a try!

heh heh, I like your take on The Joker, Mike, and I do not see any of your process as "cheating;" in fact, it's perfectly logical, to get the best illo that you can! I noticed that the gray lines on his face (and the surrounding "ha ha's") actually make the paper "whiter" than the background! Clean marker work, Sir, and the "Laughs" are a perfect "comic book" addition to the drawing!

Well, when I started these things I was hoping to keep them to all hand generated, even if I might compose an image with a background in the computer, but as they have been developed they deviate a little each time as I think of a different way to do something. I suppose it is a good progression, but wanted to be forthcoming at least with myself that the process has been evolving.
I was looking forward to how the gray markers would pop the skin, normally I use a warm gray for skin detail and shadows on skin but went with the cool gray to get the face to pop out and am pleased with the results too. I think that he turned out well though, on to the next one!

Mike, I "deviate" all the time, and that's OK -- rarely are my submissions ever just scans, always adding a background to make them "pop" a little bit, so the "kids" might actually spend two seconds looking it over. Hell, let's debate scanning, is that really "the work"? (Laughing!) Nah, you and I come from backgrounds that add "perfectionism" to our art process, so we have to use all the tools available to us.
