1 question: was sin created with eclipse, or did she enter her at a later time?
also, I'm writing something of an online story and I REALLY want to have character named sin. is it OK if I use the name?

I'm a bit hazy on Eclipse's background generally, and how she fits in - is she a heroine? Does she actively go out and fight crime/evil, or is she more concerned with hiding Sin away from people who might seek to free it?

While I love the original Eclipse, the new design is nice. If anything I think she needs a little bit of blue highlights in the outfit

Only time can tell on that one I'm afraid to say. I'd like to think one day she will make some form of appearance other then in flashbacks. At some point I'm sure we will see her, what will become of that moment though? I cannot answer until I know myself XD

What originally inspired you to create Eclipse?

I just wanted to make an additional character more then anything. When I first began on the roleplay scene, all I had was Blaze, and people who I played with all had additional characters. Hence I made Eclipse. I wanted to try and make her different from Blaze. However Eclipse started off with a very serious personality. It felt more right though when I made her friendlier and more approachable, but I didn't intend to have two friendly characters in Blaze and Eclipse. There is still a great deal of difference between the two. Blaze is more a soldier type character, Eclipse is more like a super hero.

One more question: I'm really interested in Eclipse's character and personality but we haven't gotten the chance to see much of her. Any chance we could be seeing possibly some short side stories with her in the starring role?

Thanks very much! It's actually the same as her last design for the most part, just a change of colour. I think it better matches her powers since she works with dark and shadow energy type stuff XD

It sure looks cool.
Though having her wear light colors, with SIN being the dark part, hidden within, worked, too.

Cool pic.
As for questions:
1) How did you come up with the idea of Sin?
2) Do you see Eclipse possibly taking part in any groups like DU or other projects?

Thank you very much Its certainly an improvement on the original image I think.
1: The initial conception of Sin was a pretty simple one that I had to counter overpowered characters. When I got into the Roleplaying world and brought Eclipse into it, I encountered some original characters that were honestly over the top on power level, and there was a chance I'd have my characters run into them. In a sense, Sin is my Mary Sue character to counter other Mary Sue characters I didn't want Eclipse herself to be unstoppable because I think it would make the character uninteresting, however I needed something to counter when ridiculous things were thrown at my characters and Sin was my silly answer to a silly situation.
Unfortunately to this day, Sin still retains that role, and is basically a bit of a backup if I have the displeasure of having Eclipse encounter a silly overpowered character. However I choose not to write with such characters these days, hence why you never actually see Sin, for the most part I know longer need to use her unless its for storyline purposes and hopefully she will remain a plot point instead of a proxy. I did develop Sin as part of Eclipse's character, kind of a hulk element if things get too much for Eclipse. To make her feel like part of the character, I also have that both Eclipse and Sin rely on each other. Eclipse can't live without Sin, and Sin cannot live without Eclipse as only her body is compatible with her life force.
2: In DU? Potentially, but I really don't want to juggle any more then three characters at a time, and I have intentions of entering a villain as my third and final character. I think any more then 3 and characters will be on the sidelines for too long. I think 3 is just about manageable. I'd love to enter Eclipse by any means, but the whole Sin concept and what she is I don't feel would go down all too well there and isn't needed in Deviant Universe. As for other projects though, most certainly. I do intend to bring the girl back in full swing after a few tweaks and hope to feature her as a main character in future projects.

Thank you very much. Yes it was something to better suit her power set really since she deals in darkness energy and all that. It seemed a bit more suitable that she dons a darker attire
1: She probably has been on dates and what not between scenes, but I don't plan to have the character involved in any romantic relationships personally, at least not in the foreseeable future.
2: Sin would probably love to separate from Eclipse. Eclipse has become her prison. However Eclipse is the only being she can reside within and without her, Sin will die as well. Both rely on each other to stay alive. Truth be told, in character only Eclipse knows about Sin. If heroes were to find out she's a potential walking time bomb of evil super powerful Sin, they probably would lock her away to prevent such a thing from happening. It's a very taboo matter. As it stands though, the two need each other and thus, if separated, Sin will die instantly, and Eppy would follow not long after.
3: Most certainly. I'd probably say Eclipse is actually my most powerful character (not counting Sin) and I really haven't given her the justice she deserves. I'm still developing the extent of her powers and what she can do, plus she is literally a super human. It's only because I'm evil and twisted that she gets into so many perils XD Rest assured, future projects will show Eclipse how she is suppose to be

Well, as usual, I'm always curious about the romantic entanglements characters get into. Eclipse always struck me as the easier going of your characters in that category, but oddly enough never really 'in' a relationship per se. Just more inviting and easier going in general as a rule.
I'm more curious, however, about where the original concept came from, and why the choices in changes. I've always gotten a pseudo-Egyptian vibe from her visually, so I've sort of been curious about the aesthetic choices as well as the storyline inspiration.

thedude255 In reply to Latroma [2014-03-23 17:47:12 +0000 UTC]
Well I'm not really one for writing romantic relationships or entanglements, so the fault isn't really with Eclipse but with me. Couldn't tell you why, I just don't see the real need for either Eclipse or Blaze for that matter to be in a relationship (though at least Blaze has a legit reason XD ) Between Eppy and Blaze, Eclipse is certainly a lot more approachable and friendly compared to Blaze (who can just as easily be befriended truth be told, if you come in peace ). I think Eclipse has a lot more charisma which helps her get so friendly with people, she is very kind and caring to her allies, and loyal almost to a fault.
I'm still shaping Eclipse if I'm honest. I've not used her in any projects nearly enough then I wanted to. I've always had a desert theme with Eclipse, hence that slight Egyptian vibe. In a past Roleplay world she actually befriended and Egyptian god, which kind of enforced her look, but I've since retconned that part of her past. I've kept to the desert theme though since she lived in a desert world in her past. I still look back at her background and wonder where the heck I was going with it? I've never been one for dimensions and stuff like that, but Eclipse essentially was born in a desert world which is not our own, and then there was all other weird stuff with Sin and then her father being from our world and what not. I'm not certain whether to redo her entire background cause it was pretty weird. I wouldn't know where to start though. Probably still with Sin XD

For a VERY long time, I had the same basic difficulty with Samantha. Thresher and Threadjacker got to cheat. TJ was explicitly created for the DU, so I simply took and imported the basics of the world to her backstory. Thresher is a "Scion" character from the White Wolf RPG of the same name, so her storyline reflects the basic concepts of that world-view, even if not the explicit storyline they tend to use. A side effect of that, though, is that she has a very gritty "Percy Jackson" feel to her (mostly as I feel Percy Jackson sometimes feels like a freaking Scion novel, but mooooving on.). But, with both of those, I could cheat a little on the backstory. With Water Mocassin, I was basically taking someone else's character from ages old RPs over at Eka's and duplicated her almost verbatim. I'd give the person credit, but I did ultimately change her backstory to better reflect the DU, so I'm comfortable with the differences.
With Sam, though, I've attempted to rehash her story several times. I sort of jokingly refer to this as her "Third Canon," but that's not accurate. I've played her in D&D RPGs falteringly on three separate occasions. Two were attempts in Planescape, and the third has been more or less successful in Pathfinder with the Wrath of the Righteous adventure path, currently through book 3 of 6 and likely to move to completion. "Samantha Liath," however, is one of the more disparate versions of the character because of the needs of the campaign (and the fact that Illusionists REALLY don't do well against demonic villains, especially high end ones, in the Pathfinder/D&D system.). Beyond those, the original version of Samantha was created over at Ponju as part of a High School AU RP with various forum characters. That flopped as badly as the first two Planescape attempts, and she was transferred over to a very weird sort of 'forum world' RP that was run over at Gaia Online. It was hilarious for the year that it was stable, but it ultimately crumbled like all things in Gaia Online for anyone over the age of 18. *shudders* seriously have trouble going back to that place anymore. Soooo many kids. It's irritating. There was a roughly 2 year run of her over at FurryMUCK as well, and I believe her home is still technically situated in "Hell" over there as a tree crafted with her mother's suicidal soul. Her two truly "Successful" runs have been at Eka's Portal (a fetishist site, and you already well know to avoid it, I'm sure) and here at dA. So, all told, there's been 8 individual runs of the character in the roughly 9-10 years since she was created... and if we want to get technical about it, she was in many respects a re-imagining of an elven witch named Galhena who dates well back into the range of 1992 or so, who had a very full (but very childishly written) storyline, and a female character that followed her loosely out of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms storylines when I read them in the mid 1990s.
The Ponju was the 'original,' and I've tried to re-pattern her background every time to better suit the setting. Elements have changed frequently, though there's always been a basic dynamic of "Psychotic demonic father fucking with her life," "Human mother who loves her but dies tragically and appears to commit suicide." Really, the character's story has only ever reached the conclusion of the 'seeds' story (Or the resolution of her 'captor/father' figure) once, and likely twice in the Deviant Universe around the tail end of this year. Other details have varied heavily from time to time, and while I have the basic 'idea' I'm looking for with Samantha as a concept, she's morphed a lot since her earliest days. Her origins as Galhena were as a 'victim' in need of rescue. It was this horrendously misogynistic fantasy world where the damsel in distress was the object of desire for power of some great overlord or god knows what I was thinking, and the dashing elvish rogue had to grab his friends and go rescue her before the fabled heroes could fight off the overlord and the two could sail off into the sunset somewhere. I mean, Galhena was given a spine and a personality, but it always felt so very ... Aerith in nature at times, with her spending so much of her time as the damsel that when I grew older, I was legitimately embarrassed by the concept, as it felt like it did a disservice to the character's concept. So, when I re-envisioned her as Samantha, I changed her species and the 'dashing rogue' basically disappeared entirely. Ultimately, I decided that the story just wasn't compelling on its own and that Bailhan was a terribly trite concept as a hero, and that Samantha was much more compelling on her own merits alone as a character. So, I ended up preferring the idea of her saving herself over others saving her. Perhaps their presence enabled her to see the means by which she could save herself better, but it would need to be she herself who carved the bloody path to her freedom (through her father, her brother, and whatever else I threw at her.).
Of the two 'successful' versions, I infinitely prefer the Deviant Universe one to the Eka's Portal one. The Eka's Portal version suffers heavily because her storyline is drawn from kink play, and very twisted kink play at that. It would have taken a miracle for the character to have come out sane or redeemed. Added to this has been the fact that most of the interactions before she descended into total madness were all of a negative variety save one (and it was dark to begin with and led to her meeting her worst enemies...), and she was guaranteed to go dark without fail. What I learned soon afterwards was that "Evil Samantha" simply ceases to be compelling after she's had her fun for about a year. It gets REALLY repetitive, and I mean REALLY REALLY repetitive. The content can be varied, but she hits one gigantic psychological dead-end and ceases to develop. I inevitably started trying to bring Samantha back because Abrienda simply could not move past certain points. She was an incarnation of Envy, and that was all she ever would be. The Deviant Universe one, though, has proven a far more intriguing storyline. There's been actual development, stages in her growth, relationships that have fashioned themselves in semi-logical fashion. It's been vastly more intriguing to watch the DU/Asgard Eventide storyline for me as the creator.
Whiiiiich is a hideously long way of saying "Oh, I totally understand how stories are constantly evolving for characters."
=====
On the Relationship Level: I do actually understand. The occasional slightly erotic picture or kissing scene aside, some of us are not that interested in romantic storylines. Playing a half-succubus, I prefer to focus on the aspect of Sam's romance that isn't "normal," and avoid traditional relationships as a rule, but normally I like to play them out to some extent and have lots of fun with them. However, it's really not for everyone.
...
God, I forget how long winded I can get sometimes.

I can understand perfectly. I'm kind of going through that with Eppy at the moment, though at least with DU Samantha you have something very good going on in that the character is growing well and interacting great with other characters. I have Eclipse pretty established as she is now personality wise and what not, but her origins feel like it needs an overhaul as it just feels like a convoluted mess. I wasn't at my most creative when I made her, though its going to be a challenge forming something new if I do since I want Sin to remain a major part of her character and creation.
I think out of my characters, only Blaze is the most solidly sound character background and character wise. She is where I want her to be. I'd love to do something with my third character Fira, but time constraints more then anything keep me away from her. My villains I'm not really happy with, as most of them save for Dr. Kane and Valentine just feel a bit meh. The villains I made up where just what I could make at the time and a lot of them feel a bit dated now or just don't really fit in anywhere. Either way I need to focus on Eclipse more then anything as I intend to keep her on center stage. I know juggling several characters in DU is a bad idea but maybe DU might help Eppy out if I throw her in there XD
