'Twas a couple years ago

In a secret dungeon lair-

Princess Bubblegum

Tried to make an heir.

First she made his body,

As yellow as the sun,

Then she made his nose-

She'd only just begun.

Bonny tool a vile,

And poured it on his face-

Soon his eyes blinked open,

To see the girl disgraced.

In terror, he shot up,

And screamed the loudest scream.

He flapped his arms around-

The world his fever dream.

The princess gasped in fright-

It hadn't taken long.

Her man-child was so terrified,

Her creation gone so wrong.

And he couldn't even talk-

Only cry out in despair.

The princess flinched and shivered

Down to every last hair.

Instead of helping him,

She left him there to cry-

Mere minutes old, and so confused,

He thought for sure he'd die.

Bubblegum came back

To show her heir the world,

But he was so confused,

His poor mind just unfurled.

The two had fought intensely-

This man despised the girl.

But she knew he despised everything-

And insults she did hurl.

But she wasn't spotless, either-

For his madness, she was to blame.

The poor, confused, wrong Lemongrab

Had brought upon her shame.

She'd scolded him so harshly-

Though his faults were her fault,

So he'd clenched his fists and glared at her,

And screeched right to a halt.

"You're unacceptable!" he screeched,

And he ran away from home.

He shrunk into the desert sands,

Leaving the girl alone.

Unwanted and uncared- for,

The lemon man thought fast-

He made himself an earl,

The earl of all outcasts.

He made himself a noble steed;

Lemon Horse was his name.

He looked more like a camel-

But, for him, that was okay.

Meanwhile, at the castle,

The princess sat and cried.

What had she done wrong?

He hadn't said good-bye.

After time had passed,

The princess turned thirteen,

So Lemongrab came back,

And declared the place unclean.

He took the throne as planned,

And ruled the best he could-

He always tried his best,

As all noble men should.

This didn't please the Princess-

Though unintentional,

The earl had much to learn,

So unacceptable.

She tried to make him leave,

But the brave man stood his ground.

Through cruelty and assault,

He always came around.

The people thought him evil-

The opposite was true.

He tried to rule so justly,

But he didn't know what to do.

Eventually, she fired him,

Insulted him, and laughed-

He walked into the sunset,

So shocked, confused, and daft.

The earl left without protest,

Though certainly not glad,

With his friend Lemon Horse,

Who was also quite sad.

As they princess watched him leave,

With relief in her heart,

She still hoped he would keep well

In their long time apart.
