A picture of Sonic and Metal Sonic as they appear in my fan fic, Iron Oxide.I had two goals for this picture. The first was to do a better job capturing how these two look in the fic. I didn't change the design of Sonic's leg from my last picture, but I did try to shade it more realistically, and I think that helped a lot. It's more obvious it's cybernetic now while still blending in with the rest of his design. I also included Metal's crate in this piece, as he uses it a lot, but I hadn't drawn it yet.
The second goal was to continue the work I've been doing in those Metal and Sonic studies. In particular, I wanted to really capture the "official" style of the characters, and do a really realistic job with the shading. So I tried to use a dynamic, foreshortened pose for both of them, and I tried to blend the colors to look realistic. I'm happy with my results, and I'm going to continue to study how to render these two. In particular, I want to learn how to render the specular reflections on Metal's surface..

u kno, my username comes from this fic title. i remember when i read this, it really peaked my interest, but it easily became my favorite fic i've ever read. for metonic, for sonic, for fanfiction in general. it was inspiring and really hit all my aesthetics pretty well tbh
i've been planning to get more into metonic art and fic writing again, but i havent quite yet. and i think a good re-start would be drawing fanart for this amazing inspiring story!! ^^

It took a lot of time to write, but I think it came out really well. And I was surprised so many people really loved it, consider that it was a more obscure fic and had a lot of hard science in it!

I drew these two as they appear in my fanfic, Iron Oxide . In the fic, Sonic is injured by a Buzz Bomber, so Metal ties a black power cable around Sonic's chest to stop the bleeding.

I did, actually! I wanted Metal's crate to have a martial look, so I based it off an ammo box.

Personally, I don't think it would hurt to keep a piece in there. A PPK or a Glock 26, perhaps a .38 snub revolver? A bit of hot, speeding lead goes a LONG way against a psychotic fat fuck.

I have to say, you do a really good job with the proportions in each of your drawings-- and this one has foreshortening as well with the extending hands, which is super difficult. I applaud those skills :''D

Thank you so much! I really tried to measure everything just perfectly for this piece, as it's really a continuation of those Sonic and Metal studies I've been posting. Foreshortening is so tricky though. I feel like I still have so much to learn, but I'm getting there!

The key to drawing Metal is his body language. He's tricky to draw since he has no mouth, but I tried to give him a more powerful pose so he would look happy here.

They look amazing! I like all the details on Metal's crate and the knee for Sonic's robotic leg looks really good and seamless where it joins the rest of his body.

Nah, I've never had anyone say that, although I do try to be careful when I use references. I try to use the Archie comics as much as I can for reference.
It's always a little hard, not so much with art but with writing, to be completely original, but I try my best where I can.
