Ten years before (JJ Trek) Kirk.
We're still in the Kelvin Timeline.

I never thought I'd say this, but the Discovery's starting to grow on me. She looks a bit like a cross between something the Federation would make and a Klingon battlecruiser.

The render's neat.
OTOH the design looks like someone's mixed plans for the Enterprise C (saucer), an XB-70 (IRL NA Valkyrie engine and wings) as the engineering hull and pylons, and classic era warp nacelles!

Yes. First Contact made a joke of the Borg with the introduction of the Wicked Witch, aka the Borg Queen. Since then, the creepyness of the Borg was over. Also, they made Cochrane's character into a thinly-veiled parody of Gene Roddenberry. So yes, while the Borg Cube battle was great, the overall movie is far worse then TFF.

That cannot be a Starfleet vessel. It is missing its regulation coat of light-gray thermocoat, which was applied to all Starfleet vessels until 2271.

The Discovery looks to me more like a D7-Class Klingon Battle Cruiser. If she's built like one as well and we get to see her in plenty of action then I will forgive her for her looks. Warbirds are allowed to look ugly.

Still looks to me like they tried modifying a Romulan ship for this design... Still think it looks ugly... Not calling your design skills into question, lol, it's just... Regardless as to whether they modified the design they originally showed off or not, I can't look at that ship and not think yuk.
