This is perhaps the way most view being homeless is about but the truth can be more heartbreaking as I've worked in a homeless shelter before and I'll still help if I feel it's justified as I had my share of homeless who care more for their addictions than having a home but here are some rather sad truths about those who are homeless and please note I included some of the resent changes in what it truly means to be homeless.. Be prepared for the heartbreaking truth..

Roughly 10 percent are homeless due to having  criminal past that causes many to not hire them or give them a chance... There are many who choice homeless over dealing with various problems including the fact their own family does not want them or to deal with them;15 percent are former VETS which bothers me quite a bit!  Many are addicted to drugs, smoking and drink to the point where they would rather spend money on the addiction than have a home. Most simply do not look to get any help because some people look down on them and think they are nothing but trash or worse think that they are BETTER than the homeless people and I know for a fact they would rather be homeless than looked down on in such a demeaning way..

Another big reason there is homelessness there is appalling lack of help centers around the country and yes the world as well and what few are allowed to exist are often crowded and you'd be shocked at the number of people who don't want such centers for no other reason is because they don't want to deal with them or have them around and often blame them for going homeless or worst of all think it's their own fault or think they are not deserving of help and there are even  those who blame them for being poor.

or even blame them for a high rate of crime but they do well to note that there are many crimes commented out of pure greed or their own selfish use.. Look at our own government.. Spending billons on something that we never needed in the first place and why are we giving money to counties they know is not friendly?.. Also those million dollar spa visits got to be put to a stop and why are they even being Payed for job they are not doing? If we did that we'd be fired! And what worse most of those petty crimes they talk about are done by drug addicts who are all too often lumped together with being homeless when they are TWO different problems!!

But perhaps the saddest and most heartbreaking one is the teens and families who are homeless.. That's right I said FAMILY!  There are indeed whole families on the streets simply because they cannot afford to live in a home.. There are even laws that help contribute to this fact! Did you know you have to have electric in a home just to occupy it in many places and many homes are empty because they been left to rot rather than be sold or the price they demand for even renting one is too high  ...there was time we didn't have such laws because we didn't always have electric.  As for the teens..

Not as many as you think come from broken homes.. I once met one teen who's family did little to help him because he had a drug addiction that basically fried his brains and the sad part is they had the money to give him the help he really needed but not as sad as the fact he commented ... Well I think you can guess what he did... And why? Because his own family didn't take him in when he needed it the most!! And the only thing I could do was give the poor boy food when I last saw him because I wasn't in charge of the homeless shelter I was helping at the time which has rules against drug/drink abuse which I can accept because  it is needed as they do need to understand that drinking and drugging is not helping them live a better life  but it don't mean that his family was bound by such rules and while I can understand them not babying him.. Would it have hurt them to take him to another shelter which didn't ban him because he took drugs again??.. It might've saved his life!!!...

Lastly the worst thing is how misunderstood they can be.. So many people make the assumption that there is help or worse think it's NOT their problem or that they are dangerous which can be ture but that's only because of the lack of any real help.. Well guess what?  It is their problem! And you know why? Because it's not that hard to become homeless.. There are a surprisingly high number of homeless who do have the money to buy food and water but simply can't afford the high cost of rent.. The average cost of a decent place is well beyond their means and it's getting worse and there are places that will refuse them service because of the way they dress when there are few places or people who will help..  A simple thing like good clothes can make a huge difference and if you think that some of the centers that are supposed to be helping think again.. Some have forgotten why they are there.. And there are so many ways to help that are not even being used or considered and why? because too many people think it's not their problem and that if they die no one will miss them and the worst part is they are right because they think that way.. that is unless they become homeless and don't think it can't happen to you..

The number of families out there have doubled in the last few years because of the lack of jobs and a poor economy... Whole families! Not just one old man who has no where to go!

Told you it's heartbreaking...

It is sad but true, here comes the rule of the social organization to help by providing training, job and suitable program to make that suffering end...we are in Egypt has the same problem, in a big percentage of homeless they are kids, for many reasons such as lake of finance and families problems, still the kids are the victims.
In general the target is how to make the homeless rejoin the society and to be a positive force toward the public benefit and success.

We all share the same responsibility...

*I apologize for the late response*

What I really like about this picture are the elements of contrast and distance between the homeless man in the corner and the shoppers opposite from him. Great capture.

Ohhh OK. It is certainly interesting to me that a homeless person still wears it. I would have thought that most would have sold it to survive.
