Whoa, is Iacar smiling here? Now that's an unusual sight! Sorry for being a little late with the page, I got an unexpected job gig last week that kind of got in the way, but that's all done now.
Also yay for an opportunity to draw some different hound faces from the usual cast! I think this is my first time officially drawing Kraman (the previous leader of what's now Pyramos's pack. Also as a completely useless bit of info, but Kiridos -another pack leader that got name dropped in the very, very early pages, before the crew left the Crater- is Kraman's son.)
Also happy 99th birthday Finland! Even if it's half an hour late here, but I haven't gone to bed yet, so it counts, right? Right? Anyway my country is 99 years old as of today (yesterday).

Yup. I use those cheap HB pencils you can get by dozen for just couple euros.

My favourite brand of paper is this super cheap Finnish brand of "watercolor paper" (it's lying, this stuff could never, ever stand actual watercolors, ever, and should be used for them, regardless what the cover says). The lineart is a little fancier, the panel borders are black Copic marker, the thicker character outlines are Pentel Brush Pen, my one true love, and the rest (thinner lines) are different size Sakura Pigma Micron fineliners.

A pretty good advice I got back when I was in art school was to try out lots of different things, and see what sticks. There are no rules, really (unless you decide you want to go with watercolors, then get good paper. Bad paper can ruin the whole medium).

I'm not sure which face I like better, Iacar's adorable love-struck smile, or Crippled's heart-breaking, longing one...For two different reasons, of course; there are so many interesting emotions in one page, and I love it!

You can just hear that wistfulness in his voice when he says that Nightclaw chose Iacar, and hear that unsaid "over me." That face.... Awwww..... :{

But doesn't Crippled not have parts, or is deep blooded or for some reason not able to breed, Iralab also, and maybe Moritz as well. I don't think it's a case of "I wish she had chosen me " I think it is likely "We were so happy, then it all went wrong. "

I think it is a combination, so it's natural that Nightclaw would choose someone to pass on what genes are available. But that doesn't mean Crippled didn't love her, whether or not she reciprocated those feelings.

I do think Crippled is enough of a realist that he would understand, it's more of a "I wish it could have been" than a "She shoudl have picked me."

I believe in earlier pages they kinda talked about it... or in some of the extra stuff done. If I recall he tears the meat with his paws (or has others do it) and eats that way.
