Description She woke up as she did every other morning; with a sweat that can only come with a complete lack of air conditioning. She sat up in bed rubbing away the hard bits of sleep from her eyes and wondered if she should bother looking out of the window. The light for her window shield was glowing amber, that ever cautionary colour that wards of the cities more cautious citizens.

Morbid curiosity soon got the better of her so she pressed the button to open her windows guard.

As she looked out through the murky plane of glass she could see only empty streets. Almost as if some major apocalypse had gone on through the night and had vaporised all living matter throughout the great towers of the once bustling metropolis.
Soon the de-contamination crews would be out, cleaning away debris that had been swept along as last night’s storm had whipped and churned its unstoppable ways through the winding streets

New York had changed dramatically since she was a child. The city had undergone major reconstruction in many of the boroughs which had brought better housing to many of the impoverished citizens during the late 21st century.
As bright as the city planners were at re-designing a thriving, bustling city from the literal ground up they had little to no rationalisation for the displacement and re-integration of entire communities.

As communities were up-heaved to make room for the demolition and subsequent re-construction of the new high-rise communities they were haphazard in their haste to re-integrate civilians into their new communities.

Eventually the communities within many of the new constructs began to fall apart as social and ethnic variations, once accepted within the old constructs, began to take their toll on the then newly arranged configurations.
Amazingly the city planners, although aware of their existence, had no realistic forethought as to gang behaviours within the new constructs would integrate. The city planners made the assumption that, since all the rival gangs would be on the same level of living arrangements, that all the gangs would eventually accept one another and begin to put their differences aside.

Since gang behaviours are based largely on greed, wanting more than everyone else, and dominance, wanting to be higher than their fellow humans, the gangs had more violently prevalent turf wars than previously witnessed.
Gang allegiances were formed, broken, merged, divided, conquered, founded and dissolved as territories were sought for their own personal squander.

As Jessica put on her trench coat she could hear residents stirring outside her door. Her neighbours were pleasant to be around but their activities often involved having her walk around with a closed eye. Whatever they were doing out in the corridor, unless it was too blatantly obvious, she would just get on with her day. Whatever they’re doing usually wasn’t worth her time.

Part 2 -

Scene created in Poser Pro 2014
Exported and rendered in Octane Standalone
Skin enhanced with ( www.redspec-sss.com/ )

1304mb VRAM was used to process this scene with 16k samples @ 21 Hours.
PMC Kernel was used with a diffuse depth of 80 and specular depth of 240.
Minor Photoshop skills were used to correct clothing poke-through and displacement artifacts.
Filter forge was used to enhance the image dramatically with vibrancy filters and subtly with a chromatic filter.

This is the first image I’ve done with Octane since I got my main laptop back from the manufacturer. I could not recommend Cyberpower any less, I really couldn’t…

In this image I tried to apply a god-ray / sunbeam effect coming through the window. Whilst I did get the sunbeam to work within Octane it hasn’t turned out as strongly as obvious as I’d originally aimed for. The possibility to make the sunbeam much stronger was always there but it would have overpowered the image too much so I opted to keep it as a subtle enhancement instead

The dirty window effect was achieved with an Octane texture called “Window Dirt” and this helped give the image an overall feeling of grime not just on the windows but by projecting shadows of the dirt onto Jessica’s skin. The texture also managed to give a nice blurred effect for the window so the background ended up with a Depth Of Field effect without actually having to apply DOF settings!

I did experiment with using Phantom Scatter to add a rain effect to the scene but the blurriness of the windows took away so much of the details that you could barely notice the rain at all. So instead of keeping the rain I decided to remove it completely to speed up the render time.

*UPDATE*
Deleted the originally submitted part 2 image due to the fact that it sucked ass, I rushed the job and tried to focus too much on sun rays instead of proper content. The original storyline from part 2 has been included into this Part 1 submission and a new part 2 will be added this Saturday (18 July). I'm not promising anything spectacular with the new part 2 but it should prove to be a lot more interesting in both visuals in story <3

*Update Part 2*
Changed the title to fit the series better.

Great composition of the picture elements and a lot of work and thinking you put into the artwork - respect! Last but not least, I like how you tell a story.

Thanks for the kind words!
I enjoyed making the 1st part but the 2nd part wasn't very well done at all, I'm actually contemplating deleting the 2nd part picture from deviant art and transferring its story to the first part. The new 2nd part has already been written but I'm in the process of getting back to a proper standard for the art that's higher than 'lazy' right now x( haha
