Sorry about the lackluster image, but this story has no pictures, so I didn't have anything ready for it.  Anyway, this one is from a while ago, but since it's a special day tomorrow and I've been seriously slacking off with uploads, I decided I'd upload it after all this time.  It originally served as an experiment for me to test telling a story with three different perspectives that intermingled throughout, resulting in varying consequences based not only on what the player chooses to do, but also on which order the player experiences the chapters in.

As for other uploads, I'll try to get some more comics up soon, but I'm visiting my ailing grandmother for the month, so you'll excuse me if my attention is torn.  Thanks for the understanding, everyone, and I hope you enjoy this sci-fi short.

When you upload to philomela, can you update the story after?  Or is it a one shot deal?

The short answer is "no", I suppose.  You can delete the story, then edit and reupload it as a new thing, but that gets rid of the view-count on it.  At least that's how it was last time I uploaded stuff (which was a while ago, admittedly).  It's unfortunate, but understandable.

A little late, but thank you!
As far as keeping up with readers, do you think it'd be more practical to make the story available on deviantArt as a download?

A download, you say?  I haven't been keeping up with DA's features, but I'll look into that for sure.

A short story by Tom Gould

YOUR CHOICES AS THE VICTIM:
Human ATM: You burned the money from the man's bag as kindling.
Trusting: You wanted to believe that the man was good.
He's With Me: When cornered by the police, you defended the unconscious man, claiming that he was your friend.

YOUR CHOICES AS THE RUNNER:
Gas on the Fire: You allowed the girl to imagine that your escape was like camping.
A Face Like That: You told the girl that what happened wasn't her fault.
Defend Yourself: You told the girl to take the gun and go on without you, but she couldn't do it.

YOUR CHOICES AS THE SEARCHER:
Pathfinder: You deduced the right way through the woods.
Dis-Armed: When the girl changed, you dropped your gun, causing her to relent.
Nothing Less: You told the girl that she was human, and she took that to heart.

Amazing! From your comics, I thought you were all humor, but this had a great story. There was so much intelligence and planning involved... please make a video game!

Wow, amazing, once again!
I absolutely loved everything about it. One thing I thought was kind of cool was how you knew things that the character you were playing as didn't. For example, when I was the searcher, sometimes I found myself rooting for the kidnapper to get away with the girl because I thought the intentions were good. But even though I wanted to make choices to help them get away, I decided it was best to make choices that were true to the searcher and actually try to find them.
Characters were great, I loved the atmosphere. I loved how you had all these futuristic elements, but at the same time the story took place in a forest, one of the most basic and natural settings, so the contrast was really cool.
Overall, it was another success! Keep up the good work!

That was a fantastic story. I'm still not really sure about all the little details of it, and that's a good thing. The whole set-up is a little reminiscent of Firestarter, and the choices were all very interesting, if not a little vague. Judging by the end, I made some choices as The Runner that I didn't really know where choices(letting her think escaping was like camping. Though, since I started as The Searcher and I saw the smoke, I figure it wouldn't have changed anything).

I tried to do my best with each character, since I didn't know who was right. I feel satisfied with how it turned out. I still don't know who was right, which is fascinating, but I always try to stay true to what I feel is right.

I started this story as the Runner. From the get-go, I figured the little girl was some kind of mutant or something, so I made my choices to protect her. When the story switched to the Victim, I tried to think what I'd do in her place, and made some pretty good decisions based on that. When it switched to the Searcher, I did my Sherlock thing and tried my best the find the guy. But that last chapter.... hot damn, was that unexpected.
You are a very good writer, and I hope you continue to make such gripping short-stories.
