Throughout history, women have been compared to animals. We have been compared to cats for our "lustfulness," to peacocks for our "vanity," and to cows for why we should not be allowed to choose our romantic and sexual partners. Today, women are still often dehumanized; there is still a very particular idea about how to be "woman" (i.e. passive and nurturing), and much of mass media and many politicians seem to think that all women who don't fit this version of "woman" are monstrous, and should as such have their life choices, their education, even their health care taken away. Yet given how much women's rights and freedoms are being stripped away and threatened now through the ideals surrounding "woman," it may be time to embrace the "monstrous" alternative as a way to fight back. For when you are a monster, you have it within your nature, and you are allowed, to rage.
