what size was the original canvas? c: Just wondering, as I'm new to painting and finding it all a little confusing ^__^"

It was probably somewhere between 3000X2000pixels - my stuff is tinier than it probably should be. ^ ^; I recommend doing things the size of a piece of paper or larger.

I think you did a great job here, and your level of detail is impressive, especially considering that you did it entirely using a mouse. I do, however, think that there's an unsettling plastic quality about it. I have a few suggestions:
1. Invest in a tablet, a good tablet with pressure control - I'd recommend something by Wacom, I use an intuos4 and really like it. I know you'll probably say that it's too expensive, and I agree, but it's kind of a standardized thing and this isn't the place to cut corners. I'm also expecting you to either hate it the first time you use it or tell me that you tried to use one and it didn't work out for you. To that, I'm going to say that you just need to practice, because in the long run you'll figure it out and it will help you achieve the effects you want in a more timely manner.
2. Like someone else suggested, I would incorporate colors from both into each other. The phrase most artists use is "put the sky in the ground and the ground in the sky." it doesn't have to be noticeable, but things link much better as a result.
3. Incorporate more "imperfections" into your work. It's a bit too smooth. Mess the hair up more, add a mole, etc, whatever it takes to add interest. Look at photos of real people and go from there. I've actually heard that some portrait artists actually start out painting the canvas green because the skin naturally has a lot of green tones to it.
Just thought I'd tell you that you did an amazing job and I know you have the capacity to take it a step further the next time you do something like this.

Thank you so much for the advice. ^_^ It's nice to get a bit of input once in a while, because I, like anyone, want to improve, and your critique is pointing out to me things that were harder to see before. As for the tablet, I'm hoping I can look for a nice Wacom one sometime in the near future (because, yes, using a mouse eats away at my time like nothing else @_@) but unfortunately I'm going to have to wait a while- studying abroad costs come before extremely useful art equipment, unfortunately. ^ ^; Hopefully the 'near future' isn't too far away...

Yes, definitely make the wacom tablet a priority, it's impossible to achieve the right effects without it.
I'll link you to the person I learned this style of art from, it looks like you're kind of going for this effect and they point out a lot of useful things: [link]

The scene seems unnatural due to the sheer perfection of his face, and the fact that the figure seems entirely separate and unaffected by your background. Sure, it's pretty. But it makes zero sense. Try to bring some of that lovely green light into his skin and hair.

And npe - I actually do it completely by Photoshop (though I sometimes start out with a hand-drawn sketch). I'm planning on posting a wip at some point of it, so you'll be able to see what I did.
