Description Instead of a PRR K4 Pacific in Ultramarine blue with red wheels, this one's a USATC S160 in NWR Blue with black wheels.

Story: After the war following Dieselization, Hank was left on a siding to rust for years until one day a heritage railway recovered him and slowly started to restore him. But when the restoration was almost done, the railway were running low on profit and so they somehow had to sell him, At the same time Murdoch's boiler certificate had expired and The Fat Controller needed a new engine for heavy duty work. Eventually he found Hank and soon he was repainted and transported partly by road then by boat, until arriving at Brendam where he needed to do steam tests. Sometime later a goods train down the line broke down, Hank was the only engine available to rescue it, he was concerned since he hadn't pulled a train in years, but he still managed to rescue the train. When he got to the big station, people were surprised to see him but even more surprised he got there without any problem.

So that's pretty much my mini re-write of Heave-ho Thomas "Heave-ho Hank".By the way this is the first work with my new signature, pretty sweet huh?

Hank would have worked so much better as a S160s - it really makes you wonder why Rosie wasn't given an American attitude from the outset, especially given how recently the show had been working to diversify the character's origins and nationalities a bit.

The S160s themselves are wonderful engines in my eyes - I always find it interesting reading contemporary accounts of how British railwaymen reacted to them. One I recall absolutely adored the comfortable, well-proportioned cab (with upholstered seats) and described every blast of the whistle as transporting him in his imagination out to the vast American praries. Quite evocative.

The only time I've seen one in steam was at Peak Rail years and years ago, and what I remember was that she was LOUDeven when standing still - I mean children started screaming and crying everytime the safety-valves lifted, and the whistle was like being hit around the ears by a melodious bucket!

Cewl
now that you mention it Rosie having the whole American attitude sha-bang would've ruled Hank out as pointless, which is fine by me since no one ever really cared about the character much & he only ever appeared one time in the entire series anyway

Yeah, Rosie had really wasted potential - and Hank would have worked great as an S180 2-8-0, which would have made him her 'big brother' or cousin or something. Could have been really cool.

I actually like this idea over any others. I've thought about a story where a USA WWII engine worked on Sodor, but that always seemed to be where Rosie came in. Having Hank as this engine instead of an actual USA engine is quite refreshing and gives me new ideas for a project I'm working on..
