Description EDIT: there's a sequel now [link]

This was by far the funnest DA meme I ever did!
And I learned a lot too. It gave me a lot of ideas on the direction I want to take my own style.

So a big thank you to for making this piece of awesomeness: [link]
And the style I used for the last one is She has such a lovely way of drawing girls. They always look so elegant and surreal. She actually did a drawing of the Queen of Boredom for me once: [link] But I tried to copy her style without copying that drawing. Which may account for the slight weirdness.

Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Β Thanks very much. I really learned a lot from this challenge, there's so many amazing artists whose work we recognize but never bothered to look up their names.

Sure, more styles means I get to do more of these

JIMENOPOLIX In reply to TheJenjineer [2013-02-27 19:39:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, well, mine was just a little joke. It's my original style and I'm afraid I can't let anyone draw anything that's originally mine.

But still, it'd be nice!

This is SO cool, I wanna do this for an anime character I'm paying tribute to. Although unfortunately I can't put all my styles in the meme I wanna do something like this.

Character is:[link]

And I did a Pixar and a Bob Clampett style of her.

Oh, it's a lot easier than it looks! Just use google to find some good references and you're on your way.

I LOVE this meme!
did a GREAT job creating it--I'm so glad you filled it out! And so well! seeing the Queen in all these different iconic art styles is amazing, you did an EXCELLENT job of portraying her in each and every style.
I've been meaning to fill out this meme as well with John Clyde, but I'm not sure how well I'll do.

Did you have to find references for any of them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to 3Fangs [2011-04-21 14:29:19 +0000 UTC]

I used references for ALL of them. Google was my collaborator on this project. There's a sequel now, I hope to get a chance to fill it out soon.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3Fangs In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-04-29 10:10:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I imagine Google was pretty helpful--I'm going to have to use it as well if I hope to fill this out.
Hey, good luck with the sequel!

TheJenjineer In reply to 3Fangs [2011-05-01 11:25:25 +0000 UTC]

An interesting thing that happened is that I ended up researching artists whose works I already loved, but didn't know what their names were.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3Fangs In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-05-11 10:32:51 +0000 UTC]

Aye, same here!
I already knew most of those artist, though not always by name--I believe in reading up on the artists in question before tackling a meme like that as well. (After all, you can't emulate an artist's style without learning SOMETHING about them, right?)

I'm not entirely sure what those character near "Keane and Sanders!" are supposed to represent, but I'm going to assume you're expressing love for their style in some way, so I'm going to go ahead and agree with you!

Estme In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-02-23 19:37:21 +0000 UTC]

How educational!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

CalamityKangaroo [2011-02-08 15:26:41 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty nifty. You really nailed Seuss, Schulz, and Sanders. Barbera stands out too; sort of reminds me of Daphne from Scooby Doo.
The only one I think is a little hinky is Jones, but they're all
impressively well-done.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to CalamityKangaroo [2011-02-09 09:56:11 +0000 UTC]

Jones was the hardest. He didn't draw very many people, so it was hard to reference his art. Barbera was pretty easy, I just used Daphne to see how he draws that kind of hair.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CalamityKangaroo In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-02-10 14:59:45 +0000 UTC]

Ha! I knew I picked up shades of Daphne in that one.
Jones did his fair amount of people; it's just that most of them were one-shot characters with the exception of Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam. Elmer's a pretty good study for how to draw people in Jones' style, or just how to draw cartoon people in general.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to CalamityKangaroo [2011-02-12 16:25:21 +0000 UTC]

Using those guys to draw a little girl was too tough for me, so I went with the little boy in the Phantom Tollbooth instead. I've never seen it and I'm not even sure if Chuck Jones had any part in the character's design, but it seemed a lot easier.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CalamityKangaroo In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-02-12 18:37:12 +0000 UTC]

Yep, Chuck Jones was the head of that production.
Upon further reflection, a good model might be Cindy Lou Who from the animated "Grinch" special. Jones did that as well, and while it maintained Seuss' whimsicality, the style was still his own.

mamzellechokola [2011-02-04 19:00:22 +0000 UTC]

OMG!!! Thank you very much for taking me as a model! I am very touched! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
It is even very well done! It recognizes easily the many different styles! Very nice!

Excellent job on all the styles; I particularly like Chuck Jones's and Matt Groening's styles. You imitated them very well.

lllLonelyWandererlll [2011-02-03 02:27:24 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this is cool. Was it hard to copy other peoples' styles?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to lllLonelyWandererlll [2011-02-03 10:24:58 +0000 UTC]

Some were really tricky, but the simple styles like Matt Groening and Dr. Seuss took about a minute to do.

YouHaveAShortMemory [2011-02-01 22:22:19 +0000 UTC]

Boy, was I happy to see this in my inbox! Seeing it made my day!
Thanks for taking on this meme, I'm really glad you did! You've captured all of these styles really well, and you've also pulled off the much harder task of keeping the Queen in character and recognizable in each and every one.
Once again, I love your take on my little ol' meme. It truly is spectacular. Keep up the great work!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to YouHaveAShortMemory [2011-02-02 15:11:37 +0000 UTC]

It was great! And my brother had a lot of fun with it too. He looked over my shoulder while I was drawing and kept telling me these fun facts about the artists I was trying to copy. The guy's an animation encyclopedia or something.
Ever thought of doing a sequel? I can help you come up with artists if you like.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

YouHaveAShortMemory In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-02-02 15:27:26 +0000 UTC]

That must have been so much fun. Having a fellow animation nerd in the family certainly helps.

I've been thinking about a sequel piece, and I like your idea! Which artists would you like me to put on that one?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to YouHaveAShortMemory [2011-02-03 14:40:04 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking of adding story book illustrators like Quentin Blake, Ernest Shepard and Ludwig Bemelmans, and maybe some of the European comic artists like Herge and Albert Uderzo.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

YouHaveAShortMemory In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-02-04 01:45:29 +0000 UTC]

Great ideas! I already know Ernest Shepard, but I had to Google some of the other names. Even though I didn't originally recognize their names, I definitely recognized their styles! I think I'll use those in my next meme...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Jiosen [2011-02-01 21:27:34 +0000 UTC]

Excellent! You did a great job capturing all these styles! Some of them are EXACTLY like it. I'd say this is definitely a great meme to push yourself. 8D
