I don't know how they handled it in other countries, but here in Germany it was published in the books and a little bit censored in the game.

In the book/game, Malik was imprisoned by Abbas for quite a long time. Altair saved him and brought him to a hidout. I just didnยดt want to make Malik look half dead...
