Description I shouldn't have, because I'm really pressed for time this week, but I stayed up until 3am last night to draw Rita from the Jungledyret Hugo series (known in English as "Hugo and Rita"). I guess I just needed to do something creative to release some stress. I feel pretty happy with the result! I used a new paintbrush I found in clip studio paint, the program I use for all my works now and which I have been experimenting with. I really love it a lot for making bushes and grass. I'll definitely be using the brush again in the future. The brush is called "Darker Bleed" and I definitely recommend it for nature stuff.

It's funny to me how the author of the Jungledyret series designed Hugo to be the cutest and most visually appealing animal ever, but pretty much every single person who reads or watches the series is more enamored with Rita (including myself!)

No...?
Well obviously not a trap, Rita is one of the good guys... I just mean the way she is looking, it's like she is leading you into a trap... I've seen Jungledyret before, y'know... :3

It personally wasn't my childhood, but Rita was my favourite. :3

Do you really want to know what I thought you meant.

It's gonna make you think I'm retarded and a bad person. I just didn't read your comment slowly, I thought you said that she was a trap, you know, that kind of trap, not the "she's leading you to a trap".

Likee I said, my bad and I apologize.

Oooooh dear... just you saying that made me think it might be something more on the dodgy side, and it just clicked...

And no, I'm not going to think you are retarded and a bad person... if I am correct in assuming the "trap" was sexual in nature, I should have recognised it - that kind of mindset is rampant on the internet, so it was kinda my fault for forgetting stuff like that... especially given some of the responses I have gotten in the past for some of my art...

I guess when I saw that it reminded me of scenes in various cartoons I used to watch where one character might lead them into some kind of situation, so I guess I was thinking more with that innocent interpretation based on that. Even though I've had some pretty inappropriate comments for less on my work - one of my comic strips, for example, had someone make a particular comment, which was... uncomfortable, to say the least.

So I also apologise... sometimes I just don't consider the internet at large - I mean, you should see me in real life, someone might make a dodgy implication by using seemingly innocent words, everyone else snickers, and I'm left there with a blank look on my face wondering what was so funny/bad/etc...

Fantastic drawing! It's rare (at least for me) to come across any fan art of this character. I've only seen bits of this particular film and some episodes. When I first discovered this character I quickly became a fan of the character design! I also highly admire the quality of animation.

I have watched it subtitled and dubbed. I got into it because I actively seek out fox related media! There are actually many fans outside of your region, but for some reason companies think little of it. That's a shame, because it really is so cute! I'm glad you like it.

Wasnt so fond of the last movie. Mostly due to the horrid CGI when it had storyboards that looked amazing.

TheLastAlicorn In reply to MotoNeko [2017-10-19 03:43:59 +0000 UTC]

I HEARD ABOUT THAT. Honestly I'm just not a big fan of CGI. I like it in videogames, but for movies and cartoons I really prefer 2-Dimensional animation. Something about it just looks so much prettier. Even the worst 2-D animated things look better than the worst CGI ones. I didn't end up watching that last one after I heard that their baby...was a random orphan they found who literally looks like a fusion of Rita and Hugo. Why not just let them have a baby? I also heard there was some kind of scene with a panther and Rita in a trap that made no sense? What a shame. I like the rest of it but I guess they ran out of ideas by that time--not to mention out of money since they had to make that jump to computer generated animation.

Even flash animation would have been a better choice.

"Even the worst 2-D animated things look better than the worst CGI ones" Boy is that true. Atleast handdrawn doesnt spontaniously turn into floating eyes and teeth Γ³.0

I dont think they could have a baby, not because they're different species but because they just look too young. Also the baby turned out not to be an orphan.Β

Yeah, maybe. But Flash can have bugs too. Imagine one scene if Rita were to sing and one of her eyes would suddenly disappear. They should've kept it traditional Γ³w0

TheLastAlicorn In reply to MotoNeko [2017-10-19 16:26:26 +0000 UTC]

I shudder at the thought! But yes, exactly. Also, for some reason when you do the extreme effects like making jaws drop and eyes bug out (ex. in Courage the Cowardly Dog) it looks fine even though you have stretched/squashed the character into an unnatural position. Do the same in CGI and you get a horrifying result.

True. I wouldn't mind if they were aged up--but still, why make the baby look like both of them if it's not going to be their baby? And hearing that it wasn't an orphan kind of just made the movie sound even worse to me. Definitely skipping!

OH GEEZE YEAH I FORGOT ABOUT THAT LOL. Alas. Still, it would have looked better if it were flat. I'm curious about the storyboards you mentioned earlier, though--where did you find them? I would like to see, since you said they were beautiful.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MotoNeko In reply to TheLastAlicorn [2017-10-19 17:34:24 +0000 UTC]

There is one CGI movie that i think did this well. OnePiece did it in Mugiwara Chase :3 But i also havent seen it in a while.

I wouldnt like them aging. I like how they are now, like children with adventures But you make a great point about the baby's design. Pherhaps it's due to making it look like they belong together even if they arent blood. Might also be to use the plot to show how Rita and Hugo would be as parents. Which they explore during the plot.

Just because it's handdrawn doesnt make it flat. Even pictures can be 3-D. I found the storyboards animatics on youtube, hereΒ www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LZUXX… watch and enjoy! Γ³w0

TheLastAlicorn In reply to MotoNeko [2017-10-20 23:58:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh my lord, they look gorgeous that way. Even with the plot being weird it might have been worth watching if it looked like it does in those animatics.

And yeah, I'm not sure how Hugo would look as an adult. At least Rita's mother was pretty.

It's so difficult to talk about the difference between 3-D and 2-D now that 2-D art can also be considered CGI with things like flash and toon boom. I have trouble explaining it, but I don't like 3-D objects half as much as I like the flat ones--even when they're shaded to emulate a 3D world around them.

2. You think? I thought she seemed kind of rough, personalitywise. Also she hasnt been sleeping well Γ³.0

3. I'm learning from people who do traditional animation :3

Agreed!

Just because she was an overworked and overtired mother doesn't mean she wasn't a beautiful adult vixen <3

That's very cool! I somewhat do the same, in a self taught manner. I look at what other people do and observe it very closely, then try to mimic it for my own art. It's helped me come a long way from where I started! For example, this Rita picture ^^ I feel like I did really well with it, and I think a few years ago it probably wouldn't even have been this good! Practice really does help.

1. Maybe the movie can be reproduced someday and have the artstyle which it was originally supposed to. Maybe abit of tweaking on the story as well to fix it up abit.

2. Hmm, yeah. You got a point there Γ³w0
