Description
"In the grand desert of the south lie several salt mines. Those who work there rarely go into the cities and the flow of their lives is entirely dictated by the mines, such is the routine of the dregs of the southerners society. It is quite easy to recognize the miners if and when they go into the cities from their whitened hands and feet. It only takes a few months in the mines before the change in color happens. If you were to touch the hand of one of them, you would notice how sharp and rough it feels as their scales are coated in tiny salt crystals. These crystals are also the cause of the disease of the depths, which despite its name is not caused by being far below ground, but instead by the miners body becoming too salinated. It rarely is lethal, but its side effects are rather nasty, vomiting, terrible headaches, internal cramps and so on. Less severe versions of this are simply just called salt stabs, a reference to the stabbing headaches and cramps, or salt sickness. The changes in temperature and the high humidity are also a cause for illness and disease, some get used to it over time, but others newer get used to the shock of coming out of the cold humid mines into the scorching daylight.
Another factor that usually is exclusive to miners is whittled or cut horns. Southerners tend to pride long horns, but for the miners they become a burden in the often cramped spaces. New arrivals tend to hold onto their horns, but after a few months or years in the mines, most resign to cutting their horns down to size, as who is there to impress in the humid depths of the mine?
It is possible to ascend out of the salt mines in terms of your job position, but it is hard. Those who work hard they naturally want to keep in the mines and not promote them outside of it. The people who run the mines also tend own the shops around the mines as well, allowing the owners to mostly dictate how the workers spend their money while giving them a sense of financial freedom. People who realize this oftentimes run from the mines before they are completely broken down by the back breaking labor."

In the wold of non-primate humanoids, things aren't always so cheery and glamorous.
While living in ivory towers, it might be impossible to be aware of those who work beneath the surface to keep said surface shining brightly;
those who work in dark, to the tune of rattled chain, for the hopes of overcoming that life and having just a shred of the surface world one day.

Hello:
Β Darn! I would say this would be crazy if not for some real-life mine workers of old times, let's hope these people here have it better though.
Β I do like the lore though because it surely seems was not just put together on a whim. As for the character, He looks very detailed and the attire is interesting.
Β Keep it up!

Slavery with extra steps. After all the money miners make go back to the mine owners.

Kobolds should unionize! This hits me directly in the SOUL because I used to work in a mattress factory and I developed brown lung as a result of it (from inhaling the cotton dust). Also, this reminds me of the song Sixteen Tons.
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
