"Stop right there, bandit! You’ll not be taking one more step towards the mistress." As you stare at the young kunoichi standing in you way, you find yourself in a predicament. Long ago, before you’d turned your back on the clan, this girl trained as your pupil. You knew her as an earnest and eager learner, who committed your every teaching to memory. Although you feel no regret for the path you’ve chosen, you still hold some sentiment for your former student, and would prefer not to fight her.

With a snap of the wrist, you launch a kunai at her. In the instant she deflects, you use the momentary distraction to vanish into thin air, zipping right over her and dashing towards your target. . . Or so you should have. "Oh no you don’t!" The young kunoichi instantly reaches up and catches you by the collar, slamming you into the ground. You cough as the impact knocks the wind out of you. "Pretty tricky. Too bad I’m the fastest ninja you’ll ever face."

Incredible. . . She had always been a speedy one, but you never imagined she’d actually be fast enough to catch you. There’s no time to admire her growth, however. Spinning on the ground, you sweep at her feet as you kick yourself back up. She jumps back, and you ready a dagger to charge at her. However, your soles barely make contact with the ground before you’re knocked back by a palm thrust, causing you to lurch backwards back onto the ground. You manage to react just enough to throw out two shurikens before you fall, and quickly get to your feet as she deflects them. "Give it up. You won’t get past me."

This is bad. Much less avoiding her, you aren’t sure if you can beat her. However, the job must come first. If this shinobi is in your way, you will have to take her out, student or not. You throw two projectiles. She deflects the first kunai, then falls for the bait and deflects your smoke bomb, surrounding her in a smokescreen. While she’s blinded, you zip past her once more, throwing a dynamite stick behind you for good measure.

You barely take two steps, however, before you’re kicked in the head, knocking you to the floor. You hear something go off, and see only smoke as you jump to your feet. "It seems you’re too stubborn to know when to quit." Wham! A darting shadow blows past your shoulder. "I tried to be merciful and spare your life, but there is no need for that anymore." Stomp! You feel two boots slam into you from above before leaping away. "Allow me to demonstrate the extent of your foolishness."

Whoosh! Bam! Behind. From above! In this smokescreen, she charges from every which way. It’s no good, she’s too fast. You can’t see her fast enough. You can’t hear her coming soon enough. She strikes faster than you can blink, and strikes again before you can even stumble. Where is she coming from? Everywhere. When will she strike? Everytime. She’s dealing so many blows in such quick succession, it’s like there’s a hundred attackers. No, there’s only one. Her, your own pupil. As the smoke dissipates, and you finally collapse to the ground, you can only wonder in awe just how far she’s surpassed you.

Now, let’s see the face of the man too foolish to save his own life." She pulls off your mask. "Wha- Sensei!?" Your pupil’s eyes widen in shock for just a moment, before turning to one of disappointment. "When you disappeared, I had hoped - desperately hoped - that the rumors weren’t true. Even dying in battle would have been preferable to the truth. But now, staring right in front of me. . ." As she looks down on you, her eyes full of disgust and disdain, you feel a wave of regret and shame collapse over you, and you feel pitifully small. "This bandit has been apprehended. For the attempted assassination of the mistress, he shall be stripped naked and tied to a pole, as a public display to those who would wish harm upon her." With that declaration, she turns and drags you across the floor, not even willing to look you in the eyes.
