Description You don't know what a Theremin is?

Well this: [link]

I must try to do more with my old characters the SWEFS. They really need to break out of my brain.

Here you see Smirk enjoys playing theremin and Motti enjoys hearing it.
I LOVE theremins. Dot. Greatest sound ever.

I try to get the old Sci-Fi style into my SWEFS concept. Does someone know what's the name of this art style?
Or does anyone have a link to a page with old Sci-Fi illustrations?

~Dirk

I believe the term you are searching for is called "Retro-Futurism"! When you type in google you can find images like these:

And many more! I want to make a comic or cartoon in that style too! It's one of my favorite styles!

A theremin is the only instrument that can't be replicated. Only a theramin can make those sounds.
Nice to see some theramin appreciation!

I have no idea what he's doing with right hand & why left antenna is curved (also why sound is coming from left antenna? Electromagnetic field in Theremin is around instrument, also other people/frogs shouldn't be so near theremin, cause they are interferences with field)... anyway good illustration.

If you are looking for Sci-fi sixties style, try to search for old b-class movies posters, badmovies.org can help a little.

1. Nobody said Smirk knows how to play it.

2. Antenna is curved because it looks stupid.

3. Motti is an extra reference for the field.

4. Just a visual interpretation, sorry for not doing it physically correct.

5. Who cares?

6. Yeah, can you also tell what the name of this art style?
Because i searched for those old ones.

I just tried to give some advices

I have no idea... sixties SF artworks/art got own name? I bet it's too fresh to have a name [Andrew Loomis, old pin-up drawings, Ed Wood Movies... It's all marked with 'this style' but I don't have idea about name].

Themrock In reply to K-Positive [2008-04-21 09:41:07 +0000 UTC]

And i gave goofy excuses

Yeah, for example "Golden age of Sci-Fi". But it's not the style i'm searching. You call movie poster from B-Movies.
I mean the style of 30s, which were redone in Teenage Robot or Batman 1993 for example. Flat colors, but colorfull and many futuristic lines, etc.

Flat colors+futuristic lines+colorful... Only Pop art & LSD comes to my mind

Well, there's this Taschen book that's called "Future Perfect" that has that kind of vintage futurism, mostly 50's and 60's. I don't know a link related though, sorry.

Your image is great as always and I love theremins to. Actually, the older record I can remember with a theremin on it, is one of a fellow mexican "Esquivel". But, for me, Jimmy Page is the man.

Cheerio!!

Cool work dude.

So many people slagged off Bill Bailey when he included a theremin in his set... everyone thought he was faking. Alas, one of the lesser known and by far the most compelling instrument of all.
