Description The D 4088 is a baggage car. The word 'carriage' is mentioned in the list in order to be able to place the D between the passenger stock. This type of baggage car was used in all fast and slow trains on the main railways.

The D 4088 was transported to Germany with many other equipment during the war. In 2003 the car was found by a German rail enthusiast in Romania close to Bucharest, after which it returned to the Netherlands in 2004. The number of this car has been unknown for a long time, but in 2007 the old number NS D 4088 appeared through the Romanian paint layer as a result of rusting. The viewing dome was once removed, probably at NS. The series D 4011 - 4098 was equipped with a so-called Westinghouse quick brake, which system did not meet international requirements. The D 4088 was therefore not deployable outside the Netherlands. During the railway strike of 1944/1945, this did not prevent the Germans from deporting him with many other equipment. The brakes have been removed in Romania; the car was stationary. Furthermore, the car is completely authentic.

The car is in bad condition. In restored condition, the car as SS D 488 would fit very nicely with locomotive SS 326 and carriage SS C 723. But there is no recovery plan yet.

A permanent exhibition about a pitch-black page of the war has been set up in the car, namely the transport of Jews to the penal camps in Germany and Poland. The car itself was not involved.
