Description This manned V1 was launched from under the right wing of the He-111. The Heinkels came from the 3rd Gruppe of Kampfgeschwader 53. In addition to the manned V-1s, mainly unmanned V1s were launched by He-111s, a total of 1694 pieces. The manned V1 was never actually deployed. Gliding flights were carried out to test the flight behavior. The famous German test pilot Hanna Reitsch crashed twice with a Reichenberg. For flying this bomb, which was of course a suicide mission, the so-called Leonidasstaffel, part of Kampfgeschwader 200, was set up. This schwader was responsible for dropping off agents and sabotaging groups behind enemy lines. The commander of KG200, Werner Baumbach, convinced Hitler that suicide missions were not part of German military tradition. Hitler agreed because the Mistels could now also be used (two planes above each other, the lower one, loaded with explosives, could be disconnected).
