Description "Jacques Doesn't Appreciate Godfrey's Singing"
Scanned: June 10th, 2010

Not a scene from the book, but a slightly implied one. The inspiration from this one came from a part of the book where Godfrey is rather hopelessly lost and so he starts to sing out of boredom. A little while later Jacques rides towards him and shouts at him to stop singing, "God's bones Godfrey! I rode by and heard someone singing; and then I decided that no one else in the world has a voice as bad as Godfrey de Montferrat's." Poor Godfrey.

I LIKE YOUR SINGING GODFREY!!!!!

Jacques on the left, Godfrey on the right. Characters from Nathan Sadasivan's "Crown of the World".

Enjoy!

Also, I love how you say:
"So and so doesn't like Godfrey."

And then:
"BUT I <3 U GODFREY I'LL B UR BFF FOREVR <3 <3 <3".

It is somewhat fun to see you be such a big fan of the character.

I bet the reason Jacques and the horse aren't too happy is because Godfrey is singing "My Fair Lady". I would be slightly perturbed as myself.

And, what is it with all the males in these books not having good singing voices? Is it just a character trait, or is it some sort of inside joke?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Theophilia In reply to ThatOneGuy92 [2010-10-03 17:43:20 +0000 UTC]

I think anyone would be slightly perturbed at Godfrey's singing voice. Especially since he's singing, "Wouldn't it be Loverly?"

"All I want is a room somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air.
With one enormous chair,
Aow, wouldn't it be loverly?
Lots of choc'lates for me to eat,
Lots of coal makin' lots of 'eat.
Warm face, warm 'ands, warm feet,
Aow, wouldn't it be loverly?
Aow, so loverly sittin' abso-bloomin'-lutely still.
I would never budge 'till spring."

(Actually....that sounds really "loverly" Poor Templars and their mortifcation and hardships. )

In these books or just in books in general? As far as I know, Godfrey's singing is the only kind of singing that is mentioned in this book, much less disparaged upon. But if you mean in general? *shrugs* Dunno. but if there is a myth that men can't sing, I think Josh Groban could safely put that myth to rest all by his lonesome.

In these (Crown of the World) books. Godfrey's singing is horrible, and Malik's appears to be as well.

Theophilia In reply to ThatOneGuy92 [2010-10-04 14:14:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that Malik's singing was bad. (His could be though, for all I know). Maryam's face simply signified great suprise that her dashing Saracen would, erm...be singing with a flower stuck in his mouth.

ThatOneGuy92 In reply to Theophilia [2010-10-05 02:20:59 +0000 UTC]

I would like to assume his singing is horrible. Mostly because it makes the scene (and his plight) that much more humorous

Theophilia In reply to ThatOneGuy92 [2010-10-05 02:56:29 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh....poor Malik. Maybe I should make an additional scene having Maryam's neighbors shaking their fists at him.

"SHUT AND GO TO SLEEP YOU HOOLIGAN!!! Crazy kids..."

GODFREY'S HORSE!
(In addition to that phrase sounding like a medieval oath, its expression is something between pathetic and really, really funny. )

Poor Godfrey. The Scripture says make a joyful noise, not necessarily a pretty one...

Theophilia In reply to Aranov [2010-10-02 15:01:22 +0000 UTC]

HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Best medieval exclamation EVER. Hahah, but yes, I thought even the brute beats could share in the disappreciation of Godfrey's singing talents. Because they are that bad...

HAHAHAHAHA....well, we're not all endowed wth god-like Josh Groban voices, now are we? (Sadly. I wish *I* had a god-like Josh Groban voice...)
