Description I drew this sometime in July '08 for my fiend's birthday, and the reason I didn't put it up before then was because I didn't want them to come across it on my dA page. I think the title explains it pretty well. My friend is a big fan of Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen. In fact I think it's her favorite book. (Though certainly not mine!)

Heheh... thank you! My friend is just generally obsessed with Jane Austen, I read it too, and I rather liked it, but not nearly as much as she does.

Cool! I like Pride and Prejudice too but I've only ever seen the movie (and the newer one at that)

I saw the newer one too, but not the old, long one.

I think it would take a lot of patience to watch the old one.

Hahahaha! Yeah! I shoudl tell my friends that. It's so true. Hehehe. It would take loads of patience I am sure. More so for me perhaps than others because I'm not a big Austen fan at all.

Haha... isn't it like over 6 hours or something? I personally think that in one sitting 4 1/2 hours of LOTR extended version is my limit.

Aww, they're so lovely together! I loved the book...Austen is so witty. The mother in it just cracks me up. The movies are great, too (the super long one and the more recent one). Superb job!

I don't know, Austen just doesn't suit me. (Much to the frustration of said friend. )Most of the time I just wanted to thouroughly spack them all except for Mr.Darcy. I really sided with him the whole book. Elizabeth irritated me until she finally got her act together and started to like him.

I thought they were all rather irritatingly blind, yet humorously so...Now, I think I tend to side with Mr. Bingley, just to escape the arguments that surround Elizabeth and Darcy.

You did a great job on the period costuming. The Regency era clothing is my absolute favorite. So elegant!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Theophilia In reply to GreenInkling [2008-08-26 20:52:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I had some refrence pictures so I'd have a good idea of what kind of clothing I'd be drawing. Also my aunt (who is a Jane Austen fan and very partcular when it comes to the fashions of the regency period-she dislikes when movies get them all messed up! )

Personally, I'm not a big fan of that period clothing. Just in general, I hate empire dresses and shirts (or whatever they're called). They actually DO make people look chubby, depending on who is wearing it I think. (Heheh, sorry if that sounds rude. I've been told that I often say mean and offensive things to people without realizing it, but if nothing else, I am a bluntly honest person, and I'll tell you exactly what I think. ) I like these kind of dresses better:

I even like saris better: [link]

I think form-fitting dresses are more elegant. I could probably give you a lot more examples (like all of Arwen's dresses. ) But it'd take a long time. Oh, here's a good one, it's like a mermaid style wedding dress: [link]

GreenInkling In reply to Theophilia [2008-08-26 22:04:23 +0000 UTC]

No, I know what you mean. If you're not particulaly thin, cinching above the waste like that leaves the fabric fluid to take any subtlty of the tummy, making some women look pregnant. On the other hand, for someone like me, where the smallest part of the body is just below the ribcage, it slenderizes better than a beautiful Celtic-style dress with the waist below the belly-button, more on the hips. I totally love those Arwen dresses. They just aren't flattering on me. The best kind of dress for me is one that cinches me right at the waist and then goes out evenly from there to camoflauge my large arms and huge thighs. A mermaid wedding dress would also look very bad on me, being well fitting all along the body because it wouldn't camoflauge my bulk.

I tell you, dressing is an art, and if what you like isn't in fashion, good luck finding something flattering!

Theophilia In reply to GreenInkling [2008-08-28 20:26:48 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, yeah, or just chuck the current fashion in fashion's face and wear whatever clothes suit you best! I don't wear (or even try) to wear clothing that's flattering to my figure. I just prefer bulky, baggy, comfortable clothing in blacks, grays and dark blues.

Don't worry, mermaid dresses wouldn't look good on me either. I just think they're lovely and elegant when they do work for people.

The style of your picture perfectly fits the novel. It's looking like an authentic XIX century drawing from a poetry album...

Theophilia In reply to Murrauddin [2008-08-26 21:03:08 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thank you! I was trying to for an Art Novaeu (sp?) kind of look, but then I realized I didn't really know what that was.....soooo, I just kinda settled on this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Murrauddin In reply to Theophilia [2008-08-27 09:26:47 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... Art Nouveau?( something flowing and linear, like the style in which the Elves are designed in Peter Jackson's LOTR films).

I believe you were right to "settle on this", because your picture is not too much realistic or modern. Makes me think of the historical period described in Tolstoy's "War and Peace".

Probably would have been about the same time too, though a little more after Napoleon than War and Peace. From what I recall of reading that book, Napoleon's actions in Europe was a current event.

Yeah I was reading P& because I missed her and it reminded me of her, but her style did short of through me off, though some parts were really cool. I still didn't get to finish it though, it's one of those books i have to take my time on.

Hehe, I'm the opposite if I like a book I'll take my time but if I don't like it I usually just stop. I'm a slow reader all around though so if I don't like a book and try to read it any way I could be stuck for months. ^^

It does depend on what it is and what mood you are in. That feels weird because this is the second time I've said this to someone with in the last hour but it's true.
