“ Christ….where do I begin? When we explored the pit we had no IDEA just what we were going into but now I am able to see it. The pit is in essence skull islands dumping ground where all the dead bodies of near EVERY animal on this island wether when they die, fall in by accident or just are unlucky they fall into it. Now I won’t describe what we found since the other guys have done that already large amounts of dead bodies in various stages of decomposition, various arthropods that have evolved to feed on anything that falls down there etcera etcera……but honeslty…..all of that is nothing compared to what I personally encountered down there in the form of a damned stomach that moves with a mouth at the end……what in the name of god could make something like that???? “ - Gerald tanner, SCP expedition member that was part of the first crew that surveyed the skull island pit chasm ecosystem 1953

“ WHAT THE @#$& IS THAT!?!?!?!?!” Typical response for someone seeing the Carnictis for the first time

When complex life forms began to come to being upon earth many different relationships would emerge from predator and prey relationships that is ever present to ecological engineers that change the environment like hippos and elephants every creature holds a niche that to some extant contributed to the greater ecological biosphere….but that assumption is one of folly. For some creatures have evolved that do nothing but to take and give back nothing and these types of creatures are known as parasites. From plant parasites like the kudzu plant that strangle and steal nutrients from trees to blood sucking fleas, ticks and mites all of them ultimately pale in comparison to those found on skull island who depending on who you ask comes in the form of one of the most genuinely unsettling creatures known to have evolved ….CARNICTIS SORDICUS

Now for a landmass like skull island being as biodiverse as it is it comes as no surprise that it would also have a host of various parasitic plant and animal species that feed on all the other various flora and fauna present. When the foundation first began to explore and document all the various plants, animals, ruins and cultures upon the landmass the parasites encountered initially matched up to preconceived expectations of being large and more vicious then any others encountered elsewhere in the world due to the presence of non avian dinosaurs however around 20 years after the initial discovery of skull island in 1933 by the foundation we would discover a habitat previously unknown that would utterly shatter that notion….THE CHASM PITS

Created by the geologic forces and fissures that made skull island the chasm pits with them being permanently warm and humid due to the geothermal energy that is pushed up by the continental forces responsible for creating the landmass as well as constant rainfall due to the weather present created by the anomalous energy throughout the island. In conjunction with deep mineral rich springs of water mixing with run off detritus from the areas above the chasm that forms a nutrient dense slop that would make it a perfect paradise for invertebrates to rule in serving as a entry point for more larger arthropods to take up residence in the deeper underground chasms filling with large glowing crystals similar to the sun…..but that is for a later profile at a later date

In the chasm pits it is rule by a assembly of invertebrate scavengers, detritovores, carnivores and parasites that were once smaller in size until the conditions of the chasm allowed them to reach nightmarish sizes. At first from how it would be described one would be forgiven to think that with a composition of creatures described earlier it would ultimately destroy itself due to having no prey to feed on which was and still is the EXACT opposite. Due to the openness of the chasms above it ensures that a constant stream of nutrients kept flowing into the chasm starting with leaf litter and nutrient rich mulch from the jungles above but the real bounty that the denizens of the chasm arrive for is fresh carrion.

On skull island there are many ways any creature could find itself falling into the pits from herbivores fleeing the deadly predators accidentally skidding over the sides into it, predatory dinosaurs failing to turn in time and capsizing into the dark depths, playful youngsters who fail to hear their parents calls and collapse into the deep to competing males that push one another into the abyss with it only taking one misstep on any logs or fallen trees over the chasm especially when wet or rotten before an animal falls to its doom and for any animal that is killed from the sudden force of the drop…….THEY ARE THE LUCKY ONES.

For those that manage to awake in the pit they will find themselves surrounded by some of the most vilest creatures nature has ever conceived. But should they manage to somehow fend off the various arthropod denizens of the pit they are only prolonging it for they will unknowingly stumble into the more warmer and syrupy sludge water of the pits filled with warm mucky nutrient filled water and come face to face with Carnictis sordicus or rather face to a large cylindrical maw of giant teeth eager to devour anything that moves

Now the Carnictis was first encountered by the foundation officially in 1953 when a expedition into the chasm encountered and nearly killed a member of it which while they did survive was utterly traumatized by it as well as near everyone else on that expedition more so than all the other nasty inhabitants of the pit. Now after the expedition and a body of one was acquired for examination for decades we were genuinely unsure of what exactly Carnictis was or where exactly it placed into in the expanded tree of life on skull island.

However the answer would come in the late 1990s thanks to recent advancements in dna analysis and genetic testing that allowed us to figure out what exactly the Carnictis was and the answer was surprising to say the least. Carnictis is in fact in the same family of parasites called tapeworms which are small parasites that dwell in the intestines of larger animals including humans that typically enter their hosts through filthy contaminated water or raw meat and usually anchor themselves on the intestinal walls of their host.

What makes it bizarre is that typically tapeworms are not dymanic namely since the group Carnictis belongs to that being flatworms are the only kind that are predators and are not really specialized being little more then just string like animals that absorb any nutrients and oxygen they come across. And typically they usually wrap themselves around their prey to consume them instead of swallowing them whole like what their relative on skull island does in the pits with it having a retractible proboscis like mouth similar in function to that found on the arctic scale work only much more bigger and doing so in a fashion like a leech in how they swallow prey.

Now during the analysis of the Carnictis in the 90s another discovery made was in the chemcial makeup of the animal which was faint but was still able to be noticed. In it there was tiny traces of chemical enzymes that through closer analysis and later comparison was found to be a direct match to that of VASTATOSAURUS allowing us to actually figure out the origins of the meat weasel of skull island’s pit chasms. It is now believed that the ancestor animals that would one day become Carnictis were themselves parasites that lived in the gut cavities of large theropod dinosaurs feeding off the half digested meat of their hosts.

Then it was hypothesized that one day gradually over millions of years various vrex ancestors would fall to their deaths into the pits with it now being believed they were thrown into the pit first during the war with the kongs who chucked them into there and then later during the war against the skull crawlers to prevent them from eating their corpses by pushing them into the chasms where they would be unable to reach them without risking falling and becoming prey themselves meaning that the evolution of the Carnictis was a pure evolutionary accident brought about by events on skull island’s surface above the pits.

When the ancestors of the meat weasels found themselves in the pits they found themselves in the warm murky slurry of nutrient rich water of the pits which was similar enough in temperature to the cavities of their former hosts that they were able to actually survive out of them and not only survive…but THRIVE as they would grow in size from small string sized worms to massive 7 to 13 foot long moving stomachs with maws of teeth at the end willing to eat just about anything it can come across that is smaller than itself and if they encounter large prey are more than able to twirl about themselves to tear and twist off portions of their prey to better swallow them.

In terms of their hunting due to their size they are very slow which to them isn’t a problem as the mucky pools they live in can cause any animal in it to have a hard time getting out and their bodies are attuned to even the most smallest vibrations which they use entirely to hunt prey as they have no sense of sight, taste or smell meaning technically if one was able to carefully watch their step they could be able to avoid being detected by them which might be possible if there is just ONE…but that is a very rare miracle situation in the best of terms.

Typically Carnictis live in groups that vary in size depending on the depth and space of a pool they reside in with small ones having 2 to 3 at most while the larger ones….can number of 40 to 50 in total a very scary scenario should one find themselves in all if they are surrounded. However they are NOT invincible as they have no bones to speak of and are should one be properly equipped very easy to dispose of them via machetes and can be fooled by throwing rocks into the water nearby to confuse their vibration based sense and overwhelm them long enough to be in a better position but is highly recommended to not get surrounded in large groups alone as it can spell getting a horrific death by being devoured and torn apart by all of them at once.

However what makes them most disturbing is their reproduction. Normally Carnictis will lay eggs in warm wet mud in the pools they reside in which will typically have meat rotting on it to provide sustenance for when they hatch and allow them to get their first taste for flesh however this is possibly the best case scenario. Typically for Carnictis when they have eggs they will hatch inside the mother as they are immune to the stomach acids that they will awaken in but due to the more cramped space and limited food they will actually begin to fight and kill and devour one another before the strongest one remains who will eat on both any food that comes inside the stomach and even their own mothers flesh as well in a fashion very reminiscent of mother pregnant tiger sharks who are unable to find a place to birth their young who will eventually eat one another and the survivors tear their way out.

However the Carnictis through a disturbing quirk of evolution found a solution to deal with this…. A trait the foundation learned the hard way. Their ability when carnictus find a live prey animal yet are pregnant and can’t find a place to place their eggs will actually proceeding to approach the animal and wrap its maw around their head force the eggs INTO the animal with the shock and stress of the situation rendering the victim unable to notice the tiny goes sized eggs going into and down their throats into their bodies with it working on any animal with a complex digestive system……which the foundation learned also applies to HUMAN BEINGS.

In essence the process is very slow and subtle which is the main reason that we were unable to figure out at first and were caught totally off guard by the final result. In essence the process works in a manner similar to that of related tapeworms being that they will anchor themselves into the walls of the victims intestines and will grow and mature by feeding off both any food that passed through it as well as the flesh of their host with it originally being mistaken form stomach pains and cramps at the time. Until over the course of weeks the host through chemicals by the hidden parasite will cause them to dwell in more hit and humid ares to allow them to grow before finally the creature is big enough to eat through the hosts flesh to the outside in a disturbing fashion that is almost akin to the chest burster from the alien series except it’s in the stomach cavity and if treated quickly the host’s life can be saved die to the fact it doesn’t eat through any major organs on the way out.

Despite the horrific circumstances it did manage to provide the scientists assigned to skull island by the foundation a actual opportunity to study and examine the Carnictis in a controlled lab setting and allow us to learn a very thing about it without needing to go to the pit and risk the lives of more personnel and in the process discover their main weakness.

In essence because of living in a warm and damp environment they require certain temperatures to survive in and thus can only survive in the warm muddy pools of the pits and if luck is favorable certain areas of skull islands many swamps where the water and mud is of a state similar to the pit but if a adult Carnictis is put into water slightly colder than a warm bath tub of water it would spell their doom as they would shrivel up and die.

To counteract this due to the changing nature of skull islands chasms pools of murky water continuously drying up and expanding and over again their eggs have evolved to be hatch when conditions are favorable with a test conducted with eggs of theirs collected back in 1956 hatched in favorable conditions every 10 years and have so far managed to hatch and mature with no I’ll effect with the oldest one so far hatched in 2016 managing to hatch without any issue or genetic deformities whatsoever thus it’s possible for Carnictis eggs to lie dormant for decades and wait out harsh conditions until it’s much more favorable

now in the present era thanks to recent advances we now are able to remove the eggs before they hatch inside of our personnel should something like what happened back in the 1950s happened thus ensuring no more traumatic events as long as they are operated on as soon as possible but to any person who encounters the Carnictis unless they are prepared will come face to face with one of natures most vilest creations and may god or any deity that is benevolent have mercy to any being who falls into the pit and meets their end by the maw of the meat weasel.

HELLO EVERYONE! The person7 here bringing you another skull island profile this time in everyone’s most creepiest nightmare fuel work the Carnictis and I gotta say I think I did a tremendously good job cooking up the backstory and evolutionary biology behind it in a way that expanded upon the creepy animal Peter Jackson and weta workshop created. Now for those who are basically in the lore of Peter Jackson’s King Kong the Carnictis was said to be the result of a random vrex ancestor falling into the chasm pit and managing to survive into its current form and while I did like the idea I basically expanded on it by basically having multiple V Rex bodies help to contribute since realistically I do not believe one would have been enough and that it would have taken many corpses filled with meat weasel ancestors to be able make a large enough population to sustain itself. The second change was adding more of a horror element to it which I based off actual tiger sharks whose young if the mother doesn’t birth them soon enough will actually cannibalize one another before eating their way out which is incredibly gory that to me actually felt like it could fit in for the brutal nature of the 2005 skull island and what better way to do it than by doing it to the Carnictis who would also be able to inject the eggs into the mouths of other animals and humans as well to basically be like alien to add a more messed up side to them as a whole. But other than that I hope you liked my image and my description and hope you all have a lovely day wherever you are and don’t forget to comment and leave fav
