Description
Born blind and without the immortal stone scales of his brethren, the albino dragon Seath was an outcast from the very beginning, a weakling in comparison to the other Everlasting Dragons, vulnerable to physical injury and the ravages of time. It would be this distinction that would give rise to an all-consuming envy of what he did not have, and it would be this that would spell the doom of his race and herald the beginning of the Age of Fire, the reign of the gods.
Siding with the Ancient Lords in the uprising against the dragons, Seath was instrumental in their victory, for while he did not possess the scales of immortality, he knew that without them, the dragons would be vulnerable. With this information, Gwyn and his knights brought them down with the Lord of Sunlight’s lightning, leaving their living flesh exposed for Nito’s miasma of pestilence. With the dragons extinct and their homes destroyed by the fires of the Witch and her daughters, the way was clear for the Lords to ascend the throne as the new rulers of the world.
Seath, the only dragon to be spared from the purge, was rewarded for his aid, with Gwyn raising him to dukedom, and bequeathing to him the archives of the newly constructed Anor Londo, and all the knowledge contained within. However, for all his newfound glory, Seath was still plagued by the knowledge that he was not invincible, and would one day wither and die, just like the fledging humans. If he was not born with the scales, perhaps he could find another route to immortality, and the archives were the key.
Over the centuries, Seath would become obsessed with finding this secret, pouring through the fobbidden knowledge of the archives and conducting experiments in his desperate quest for eternal life. But, as with any who pursue knowledge and power at the expense of all else, Seath would lose just as much as he gained, his mind most of all. His servants would abduct Gwyn’s own followers for Seath to carry out his experiments upon, and his madness would spawn abominations that would plague the land. Even the sorcery wielded by humans was the child of Seath. These actions would earn him the hatred of many, including the mighty Havel the Rock, bishop to lord Gwyn.
In the end, Seath has only found a temporary solution in the Primordial Crystal, the relic he stole from the Everlasting Dragons, granting his body with the ability to regenerate instantly from any wound, imbuing him with the invincibility he has sought for so long. However, this salvation lasts only as long as his priceless treasure lasts. Ironically, he is not dissimilar from the Undead he tormented, incapable of dying, and driven mad by his own despair.
In the pursuit of knowledge, there is always a price.
