Well, I do not usually critique, but since you have requested it here, I will. I apologize in advance if you find this critique harsh but I hope that you take it to heart, because you are a very good artist and what I see here makes me so sad; it's not worthy of your obviously great talent!
Firstly, I absolutely love the colour composition in this piece! The feathers and shadows are gorgeous; I love the painterly strokes which are complimented so nicely by the texture, which feels very nice visually.
Unfortunately, though I can tell that TheRafa did try dearly to give an impression of proper equine anatomy from the shading, I must very sincerely and very apologetically profess that the pegasus is so hideously malformed that it is quite hard to look at, quite ruining the overall visual appeal of the piece, putting mock to TheRafa's talent. In fact, I would sadly suggest someone call the vet to put the poor pegasus out of its misery, because it could not possibly survive in real life, let alone run or fly with the anatomy that it has here. With its lack of wing musculature this animal would not be able to gain an ounce of lift no matter how hard it tried and if it did succeed to get some air by leaping off of a cliff, it would only drop like a stone to its death. I also highly doubt that with its post-like, almost elephantine legs that it would be able to move, particularly with its lack of fetlock joints which would have allowed it to move just a little, as it needs to to live. Its upper forelegs as well as carpus joints look swollen; its left hindquarter looks broken at the hock. Its ears, wings and hooves are the wrong shape, rendering them useless to the pegasus. The head is made creepy by unnaturally fore ward facing eyes and a camel-like nose.
The pegasus has a good silhouette, and I can say that TheRada got the basic shape of the animal correct, but its anatomy needs a lot of work. If the artist is willing, I would suggest that they ask another artist skilled in equine portrayal to red line the piece or much more educationally for the betterment of their art, that they spend some time seriously studying horses. There's a miriad of horse-orientated groups here on dA not to mention deviantART's search engine and Google to get references from and learn about the anatomy of these beautiful animals. There's also literally thousands of videos of horses on Youtube at your disposal for reference as well. This piece could be so much more if only the pegasus looked like a pegasus - but it falls very sadly short. There's great promise here; the feathers are gorgeous, I like how the mane and tail were rendered - but the rest of it needs much work. Particularly, I would suggest that TheRafa look at either photographs or footage to understand how the equine body behaves in mid air.
I am reeeally sorry if I sound harsh! This piece could be very beautiful if some time was spent to get the anatomy of the pegasus right. The background is very lovely and again, the piece has stellar colour composition. I understand that horses can be a tricky artistic subject but with some time and an effort to understand their structure, they can be a joyful breeze to draw as well as paint. I am very certain that TheRafa could paint incredible equines to compliment their compositional skills after some study as I find their painting ability quite inspiring! Good luck TheRafa! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Really good, though his right leg could have been bent and the left one could be slightly bent to show that he's swerving to the left in mid-flight. I like it.

This is great. I love the attitude written on the Pegasus' face. Also, the contrast as well as the details on the coat, wings,Β and in the background (the water in particular) really make this piece pop.Β I also love the light on the wings. Beautiful work.

It's awesome in all aspects, the only thing it's the posture, it's a little stiff.
but this is a apprentice opinion...
