Description After losing a car chase against the criminal Zoda, Rick Wheeler closed his eyes for the last time in 2150 AD. The former Grand Prix Champion and Detective would wake up in 2201, with Jody Summer and Dr. Stewart to greet him. As everything in the world of tomorrow was foreign to him, he had to rely on others to get around. But one thing he's got a knack for is speed, and Dragon Bird is there to help him accomplish his mission of defeating Zoda. He would unknowingly be the biggest factor in the battle of good vs. evil...or so the Legend of Falcon says...

Rick Wheeler (F-Zero Series, Nintendo)

Of course, we still have the GX/AX Pilots to get through...but really, I think GX could have done nicely without half of the AX cast. Just having some of the GP Legend racers there would have done a boon to GX's sales.

He's really not a character I care much at all about, however, I will always hold that his absence from F-Zero GX sucks. The Dragon Bird was practically made for GX and would've really brought some fresh colors to the track. The only similarly colored machines that come to mind is White Cat and Magic Seagull. If nothing else, it's a little bit of a shame that we didn't at least get a little cameo of Rick in, say, Chapter 3 of GX.

I mean, you had the anime and GX existing at the same time. The anime used GX assets hard, especially in GP Legend (game). You'd think they'd throw us a bone. I mean, putting Dragon Bird in GX would have given the anime MORE popularity, and given GP Legend a much more dignified end.

To be fair, GP Legend came out after F-Zero GX itself. A cameo would have been unlikely.

BUT, they were both being planned and worked on at the same time. It'd be virtually impossible for the makers of GX to be totally unaware of GP Legend's existence and vice versa. While making F-Zero GX SEGA undoubtedly knew that there was an F-Zero anime being made in the works, just as the makers of the anime knew that a Gamecube game was in the works. It just so happens that GX was released a few months before the anime. I simply assume it was fully in SEGA's control if they wanted to approach the makers of GP Legend and borrow Rick, after all, the anime would go on to do that with Deathborn and Don Genie.
