It worked but due to a monster that came in the abandoned hospital this guy worked to recover her at and killed him ended up throwing her recover process out of whack and created two entities, with the virus (which Trina is known to nickname "Vinny") as a byproduct. Only the virus survives as a sort of parasite that has spread to the rest of the swamp, since the environment offered optimal growth conditions with the moisture and bacteria and all.
