Swampert is a large semiaquatic amphibian native to most swampland areas of the world, but features most prominently in the Hoenn Region. Like most amphibians, Swamperts skin is permeable to oxygen, carbon dioxide and water, allowing it to breathe through its skin while underwater, while making use of buccal pumping when in land. An odd characteristic of this species, shared with its cousin Dragonite, is the retaining of its external gills to adulthood. It is thought that these help breathe in low oxygen areas, or where the permeable skin is otherwise impeded.

Swampert is product of an age old arms race in the primordial swamplands, home to large, often poisonous, and predatory Pokémon, it has evolved several biological characteristics seemingly designed to cope with this incredibly hostile environment. Its skin holds several dangerous toxins excreted when in danger, it has also developed very powerful extremities; Swamperts main weapon are its large frontal limbs, whose powerful muscles are designed for quick and effective strikes, these are known to crush Scolipedes massive exoskeleton or ward off other predators such as Seviper and Arbok. A common defense is for Swampert to propel mud with these arms towards it enemies or rivals, this behavior has been humorously named as Mudslap by local habitants. Its hind legs are also quite powerful, using them to walk cuadrupedly on land, and for propelling itself at great speeds underwater. When on land, so as to conserve the moistness of its skin, Swampert is known to release thick, somewhat toxic mucus that isolates its skin almost entirely from outside pollutants, including even, electrical shocks.

An active and ambush predator, Swampert feeds off most Pokémon that it can fit through its large mouth, including birds, reptiles, fish, mammals and other amphibians, sometimes even the young of its own species. However it’s favorite food comes in the form of the large and poisonous Scolipede, to which it has developed immunity to its poison.

Generally living the entirety of its life in the swamp and similar bodies of water, it is known to form nests in the coast lines with massive fallen tree trunks, and in occasion even small boats, depositing hundreds of thousands of eggs. While there are few that can pose a real threat to an adult Swampert, its young are generally picked off in mass by the local wild life, contributing to the delicate balance of the ecosystem.

This species suffered a surge in popularity in 2005/2006, in the form of the adoption of thousands of Mudkip as pets, however the lack of proper training and understanding of the species, led to several escaping into local habitats, becoming a threat to local species and to be considered as pests. Its heavily territorial behavior as adults have luckily stopped them from becoming as prevalent as cane toads and geodudes, however precisely this behavior has made them extremely dangerous. If carefully trained and cared for however, this species can become a very friendly pet and companion.

Here you can see it letting out a call too other swamperts, so that they know not to fuck with him and his hood, yo.

*Mega Swampert*
Sightings of Swamperts that are at least a third bigger and quite bulkier than a fully grown specimen have been confirmed in some areas of Hoenn, some speculate that this sudden size growth is sparked by the dissapearence of competing swampert do to their popularity as pets, or even as a subspecies, however scientific studies have yet to take place.

Sort of a mix between all the species of amphibian in a big loveable package.

♐Here's some constructive criticism: I think it's body gets thinner as it reaches up to the head. Also, the middle gill on the cheeks are short and the head fins are taller. I like what you did with the fingers, but maybe they should be thicker.

Swampert has always been my favorite Pokemon and realistic Pokemon are some of my favorite things to look at on this site. That said, this is the best interpretation of a realistic Swampert that I've ever seen. I absolutely adore what you've done with it. Fantastic job, man.

- Np : ), i think you should use the colors from the swampert, and paint it on the water, and just make the colors reflect, but not the entire image since the water isn't that light. -

Nicely done!  Good job on the wall of text, but the art alone is really nice.  The details of the external gills are good ones, and the more realistic amphibian feet are great.
