More buttercream cupcake critters!I made sure lots of pictures were taken of these guys so that I would be able to put together a tutorial later if the mood strikes me.
Wilton tip #12 was used for the bodies; #3 tip for muzzles, feet, ears, eyes, tails, dog bone, and fish. (Not to mention the grass tip was used for grass.)
No particular reason I did dogs and cats... I just like animals!
If anyone has any ideas on other animals I might be able to use, feel free to let me know! I'm always looking for new ideas....

I was also thinking about doing an animal for each letter of the alphabet to make a poster or something... perhaps I will use a bear for 'B'.

A helpful source of inspiration I have found for this type of work can be ceramics. The only problem with that is that you will have to look at them from a few different angles and spend some time thinking of how you are supposed to be able to do something with piping instead of clay. Works great if you are doing marzipan figures though.

When I get an idea of what I would like to try I play around with different ways to do it until I find something I like. The great thing about frosting is that you can always scoop it up and reuse it, or just eat it!
I kinda think of them as edible sculptures...

Thank you! One of the older ladies at the function I made them for ate the cupcake around the dog and took the dog home to show her husband. HAHA 
When people enjoy them that much, it makes all the hard work worthwhile. There was also a little boy that was so excited to have a dog on his cupcake he carried it around saying, "There is a dog on my cupcake!." That was awesome to see.
