Description Emily Blunt as Rita Vrataski in Edge of Tomorrow, one of the bestest movies evar.

Time taken: OVER 9000.... seconds. I don't know how many hours because I'm too lazy to time myself.

Tools used: A mechanical pencil. But not just any mechanical pencil, it's the same one that I use to take Calculus notes with, so this picture is magically infused with math.

Difficulty: Too difficult. I'm never trying something like this again until I get some decent drawing materials. One mechanical pencil is not suited to drawing a mech-suit.

Sorry for the slightly sub-par quality. I took it somewhere to get it scanned and after I got home realized they had done it in black and white instead of greyscale so the quality was awful. So I just took a picture instead because I'm a lazy pants and didn't want to drive all the way back and complain.

It's a wonderful piece, you just need to work on your blending and keeping your whites as white as possible. Also, the lens flare looks like it was an area erased afterwards, rather than incorporated into the work.

The B&W version may have been better; this looks like coffee was spilled on it at 7 in the morning before a Calc test. Been there, done that and good luck.

Thanks for the tips! I've always had more trouble than I should with lens flares, and in this case I actually did have to do some erasing because I started filling in the reserved area without realizing it. My drawing pad is slightly cream colored rather than being pure white, so that might have had something to do with the coffee colored tint, along with the white areas not looking completely white.

As far as blending goes, I'd have to agree with you. It's just something I need to spend more time working on.

Odd, it may just be the photo, but there is a pretty substantial area next to the face and above/on the blade with a slight yellow/brown hue that doesn't match the creme of the paper.Β

You should use a whiter paper if possible, using a creme color results in lower contrast and a generally washed out looking image. If you don't already, make sure to keep something like a ruler between your hand and the paper to ensure you don't smear anything unnecessarily as well.Β Also, crop your image down so that it is more presentable.

You're still drawing with lines rather than shading areas, so I'm sure that once you switch the blending will be really impressive. I suggest following that up with looking into pencil hardness and paper roughness to find what suits your style best.

This is TOO amazing to have been done with a mechanical pencil. Your art looks AMAZING. Good job for making time to do this, cause now I get to look at it!
P.S. Good luck with Calculus. YOU WILL MAKE IT. And lets be friends!
