Description After browsing through deviantart, I realized that to make a composition look a lot nicer, I should use flowers. The only problem is that I'm really bad at drawing flowers and trees! >.<

So here is my traditional painting using my new watercolor set and drawing/coloring flowers! I hope it turned out well! I still need to figure out how to scan in traditional drawings. Maybe I should take a picture instead?

It is very pretty!
It reminds me of those very pretty pictures they slide show at the end of anime shows? I always loved the endings of those shows for the beautiful pictures <3

I think you did beautiful! Flowers are difficult to draw because not one flower is the same, and you have flowers in different angles...it's difficult. :3
The colors are very bright which makes it a very sunny picture.

Scanning is better than taking a photo...in my opinion. If it is possible on your scanner try to adjust the contrast and brightness and than scan. That's how I do it :3

Just in time for summer!

By the way, thanks for the tip. I have a few question and any advice be very helpful:

What type of watercolor paper do you use? This is on cold-press and I've tried hot-press (which much smoother, but still has texture) and using watercolors on illustration paper is basically a no-no, though is so very smooth! I've tried scanning and adjusting the contrast and brightness but it overexposes the image and still leaves texture marks. From my understanding texture cannot be eliminated completely because the image is scanned using a single source of light from a single direction. Do you edit with photoshop or a similar program afterwards to further eliminate the texture?

Thanks!

Oh thank you very much!!! It means a lot coming from someone seems to know how to use color.

Do you have any tips with coloring? And which paint program do you use? (I know this one is traditional, but normally I use photoshop... and I'm really considering SAI.)

cinnateaa In reply to TheStarKeepers [2013-07-14 14:50:38 +0000 UTC]

No problem! ^^

Hmm...well I'm not so great at giving tips orz
but I guess when coloring try to think about using more than just different shades of the same color.(I end up ignoring my own advice sometimes orz) but basically just play around with using colors you might not think of over your base colors/shading, and tweak it until you get something that you like. Oh and you probably know this but never shade with grey/black. It's much better to go with a slightly cooler, deeper shade of your base color. You CAN get a kind of similar effect by using "multiply" over your base, but personally, I think it's better to just pick your own colors. And...gosh, I'm really not good at tips. If you have any specific questions though I'll try to answer. c:

I use SAI for all my lines and coloring, and photoshop for minor color adjustment tweaks/transparent backgrounds. I love love love Sai! It has the best crisp lines you will ever get digitally, and it's great for cell shading or soft shading. (if you want a painterly look though, Photoshop is probably better...) In my opinion, Sai is 100% worth getting.

Haha, any advice is great. Some people just naturally understand the Big 'ol Color Wheel! I'm not one of them, haha...
Now I'm very eager to get SAI. Can't wait to start experimenting with it!
