Description My entry for and 's contest: "Childish Perspective."

This was done traditionally with ink and watercolor. ^^ I'm still trying to figure out how to effectively scan traditional images so they look nice...why is it so hard!!

When I first saw the theme, I remembered back in the day when I played make-believe, becoming an astronaut, a chef, an explorer. The greatest thing about being a kid is imagination. A child can turn ordinary things into something so great with your imagination. As an adult, you tend to lose a lot of faith in the world and try not to stand out but as a child, I guess you can say being blissfully ignorant of everything is a gift. That is what I missed most about my childhood and I wanted to draw the good times of being just a kid and living in the moment. So I drew a girl having a tea party with her stuffed animals but in her mind, her toys are very much alive.

Well, I hope you can see what I was trying to portray. >.< I haven't done such a big project in a while and it was quite fun!

p.s. These dolls are actually real. I own the frog doll and Mashimaro doll (actually Mashimaro is now my dog's property). The giraffe doll is something I looked up online. I'm considering if I want to buy it.

I never had a tea party before when I was little because I was terrified of dolls but this makes me wish I did I could've used stuffed animals TT^TT

Hahaha! I was terrified of dolls too! Especially the ones that opened and closed their eyes. *shudder s* but I mostly played with whatever people bought for me as gifts and they were usually stuffed animals.

This is adorable!

I don't really remember doing too much of the make believe stuff when I was a kid but my twin sister and I were really into dinosaurs when we were little. Not barbies or dolls like most little girls today seem to like. So we had like a little army of dinosaurs. Well we would take all of those toys and put them into a line and migrate them from our room, through the living and dining rooms, to the kitchen. And then back. lol We even knew the word 'migrate' by then because we watched so many documentary type videos about dinosaurs.

And when I was in kindergarten we hatched some chicks and one of us got to take them home. That kid ended up being me. So some of them survived our cats and grew up. I think there were two roosters and a hen that lived. But anyway when my sister and I went outside we took this little basket (almost like a picnic basket) and would stick that hen in it and carry her around our yard (all 19 acres). And oddly enough the chicken didn't try to get away....

That sounds really fun! I remember incubating chicken eggs in elementary school. I think we also grew silk worms! I don't want to sound mean but can I ask what happened to your roosters and hen? When I was little, my family lived with my grandparents and we also raised chickens and roosters to collect their eggs. Sadly, I don't remember much of what happened to the chickens after we left the house. =__= I just remember I was a bit scared of them because they were not that much smaller than me and kept of chasing me everywhere in groups.

My sister and I were also very interested in dinosaurs! I believe we were introduced to dinosaurs in 2nd grade and at that point, my sister's career goal was to be an archeologist and mine was to be an artist that draws her findings and such. Ahhh, the good old days. But when I played by myself, I had little figurines that I would build cities for out of paper and tape. Unfortunately, paper isn't a very sturdy material to use so I ended up using more tape instead. >.<

Well I know we had a tent that our dad, my sister and I put up in the backyard behind the house. Dad didn't take it down right away after we had our little camp out and one of the roosters got caught in it and died. And I think we gave away the remaining rooster and hen. I don't quite remember. I think the rooster that died was the one that kept flogging our legs when we went outside so we didn't like him much. That was at my dad/grandparents' house. Later at my mom's house we got more chickens and kept them for collecting eggs. Except the one time when we had too many roosters hatch, then my stepdad had us help him kill them so we could eat them.

I was interested in dinosaurs probably before kindergarten and was still very interested up until middle school. I did have some barbies or barbie like dolls but my parents and grandparents quickly found out that was not a good idea because all we did to them was take them apart. lol At my mom's house we mainly had farm animal toys.

Yeah paper is not a very sturdy material to begin with and then when you add children to the mix, it becomes even unsturdier.

You know I don't remember ever playing by myself and when I did I don't think I liked it...but that's probably a twin thing.

Although I don't remember killing the chickens, I think my sister mentioned that our grandfather beheaded one. >.< I'm quite glad I didn't get to witness that.

Must be nice having a twin. My sister was more interested in reading books and I was more interested in drawing and playing make-believe. So although we played together on several occasions, I played by myself a lot also.

We did and have many of the same interests but a couple of years ago she started liking some different genres of music and manga than I did. It kinda sucks later in life because most twins (myself and my sister included) have a hard time separating and leading their own lives. Especially when people tend to think of you both as one entity rather than two separate ones. So when you grow up that way, it's kind of a handicap.^^

I kind of understand. I grew up being very dependent on my sister and suddenly when you're forced to live on your own, I guess you either have a choice in going independent or just breaking down. >< I do sometimes miss being a kid.

I think the best make-believe game I had was playing easter egg factory with my sister. We used the ladder from out bunkbeds and laid it on the floor to represent egg holders and filled each gap with plastic eggs (separated by color) we got from our Easter Egg hunts. That was really fun...
