For me, Ariel was never the "good" that juxtaposed Ursula's "evil." In fact, she seemed pretty evil herself, if you ask me. Long story short, I tried putting Ariel in Ursula's fins because... I felt like it.

I think you should try and see what she'd look like with her tentacle color scheme of a sickly green like her tail was, and see how it contrasts with her fiery red hair. Might produce a good, eerie effect.Β

Now this I would have loved to have seen inan episode of the series. Ursula uses her powers to either 1. Transfer her wickedness andform onto Ariel while she can go marry the prince herself . Oe 2. Turn Ariel into the daughter she always wanted.

This reminds me of the ending in the Grimm Fairy Tales comic's version of the story. Where the sea witch takes the little mermaid's body as punishment. So in the end, you see her with the mermaid's upper half and her tentacles.

I really wouldn't call Ariel evil or selfish, really. An evil or selfish person would not risk their lives to save their friends even when it very likely would mean death or something costly (like saving Flounder from Glut, or saving Sebastian despite not really needing to do so from becoming Grimsby's dinner).

And despite what people said, Ariel wasn't impulsive when seeing Ursula. Quite the opposite, in fact, she was very reluctant. She'd need to behave exactly like Jafar did when wasting his third wish if she were actually impulsive during that case.

That being said, she does have her flaws, such as naivety and impulsive.

Ariel's not really evil, though. Misguided, yes. NaΓ―ve, sure. Not evil, though, and not selfish, either. She'd have to be more of a Francis Wilkerson expy or, to use a more Disney version, more like Kuzco or Prince Adam pre-Beast transformation before she could come close to being evil or selfish, since those are how evil and/or selfish people are like. Or maybe Bella Swan (whom from what I've heard was a very big sociopath).

Yeah Ariel had her flaws, but she had a bit of an excuse. She was 16! A lot of teenagers are like this. Hence why Bella is not a good female role model. We all knew her dad was trying to protect her but naturally because she is a teenager she has to do exactly the opposite of what he wants he to do. Ursula was an adult. She knew what she was doing was wrong, she knew it was evil. Personally, a better story would have been Ursula using the hostility between father and daughter to turn Ariel into her little protege. Helping her get what she wants and making Ariel adore her and hate her father would certainly be an awesome revenge.

Is Belle a teenager? I always thought she was more in her early 20s.

Not Belle, Bella, as in Bella Swan.

I think this is too awesome! And you're right, she was kind of a villain. I mean, she never really learned anything as most princesses do. Her story (Disney's version at least) doesn't really have a moral. Ariel complained and did all she could to get what she wanted after pretty much screwing everyone over and in the end she still got what she wanted.

Don't get me wrong, I like Ariel, but I think she kind of fails as a Disney Princess.

To be honest, I'd say she did learnΒ (I doubt she would have attacked Ursula and tried to avenge her father if she didn't).

And she really didn't "screw anyone over," actually. Otherwise, she would have abandoned Flounder to that shark instead of saving him, putting herself at risk of being eaten by the shark herself as well. She would have let Eric drown, she would have actually made sure Sebastian was eaten by Grimsby as revenge for his squealing on her, maybe also laugh at her father's fate or commit patricide.

Now, that being said, she did have her flaws (her naivety and impulsiveness), but she definitely wasn't a villain, or selfish.

Actually, the original tale basically did have her screwing everyone over in the most blatant manner, all for an immortal soul. Personally, had I written the original tale, I would have God, after granting that mermaid an eternal soul, sentence her to an eternity in Hell for her selfishness in her actions in her overall life, even with her sacrificing herself. The original tale was even worse than the Disney version.
